Just came across this blog that raises the age-old question of whether "Peace of Mind (The Candle Burns)" is the Fabs or not. blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2008/07/fake-beatles--2.htmlThe mp3 on the page is clearer than I can remember (though I haven't heard this in a while.) I know everyone -- me included -- doesn't think it's them. But listen to the mp3. Tell me ... do we want to go there?

If I may quote myself from the "Favorite Beatles Bootleg" section: ______________________ About PEACE OF MIND. I know it's not them, but sometimes when I'm listening late at night, and I think the band are not quite right, I feel it just might be Beatles - just playing it like that. ______________________
Then the day breaks, and my mind aches, for 'tain't them after all.

Sounds like something that could have been recorded at Kinfauns or in India, but I would think after alll these years, someone would have come forward with verification.
I first heard it in 1979.

Didn't someone 'fess up about ten years ago that they had faked this recording? I seem to recall that they started out trying to make a bogus Pink Floyd track, then realized it sounded more like the Beatles so they took it in that direction instead.
It does sound kind of Beatleish, but no more so than, say, some of the Klaatu stuff. I do kind of like it, though.

I first heard this on the 20 X 4 Bootleg LP issued so long ago(still have it by the way). It is convincing but as most have said wouldn't it have been documented in the Sessions Book? Or put on the Antholgy Series if it was indeed the Beatles? The Lp says it is an Unreleased Track from the Sgt Pepper Recording Sessions. I listened to the MP3 provided and it does have many Beatle Qualities. It would be nice to know who it really is though. It is also interesting that this track was never issued on a Boot CD(or least any that I have or have seen so even the Bootleggers are having none of this).

I first heard on 20x4 as well, after reading about it in either Beatles Forever or Illustrated Record. It's not the Beatles. Now that I can record from a Newmark turntable to the Mac, I think I'll pull out 20x4 and put it on a disc for what it's worth.

But the real definitive origin, to my knowledge, has never been known.

Of course, only Steve has the proper access to look back now, but on the board formally known as abbeyrd, we actually got into a pissing match with a guy/girl with the username "Sytarr" (or something like that) who claimed to have been the artist who did it. Anyone else remember this brief appearance last year? P.S. FWIW I also have a copy of 20 X 4...must have been one of the more popular bootlegs of the day.
