I went to hear Bruce Spizer speak last night about his book The Beatles are Coming: the Birth of Beatlemania in America. The talk was illustrated with slides and musical interludes. It was very interesting and fun.
I haven't been here lately as much as I used to be, so I haven't read the threads consistently, and I'm just wondering...what do you guys think of Spizer's books? Have y'all discussed them on here?
I only have the abovementioned one, but I'd take them all if Santa wanted to bring them to me.
Do any of you have them, and/or have opinions on them?

I have a couple of Spizer's books, and I'm impressed by the amount of research he's put into them. As he's explained, he's a lawyer, and doing heavy research is part of his job. I also admire his integrity in that rather than compromise and cut corners, he goes all out to produce the best quality books possible. True, they're a bit on the pricey side (which is the reason I only have a couple of them), but, they're well worth getting and are pretty much essential to any Beatles book library.
I rate Spizer along with Mark Lewisohn as two of the very best Beatles authors around, and in my humble opinion, their books are pretty much the standard by which others should aspire to.

I thought his biography was very good, particularly with regard to conjuring up the feel of Britain in the 50s, with only a couple of jarring notes (one was a reference to discarded sandwich wrappers and plastic drinks cups while songwriting was going on in the McCartney lounge - no such things in 1950s austerity Britain!)

I have both sets of his Capitol and Apple releases as well as a well read copy of the Beatles are coming and the Swan Song book. I have to say that they are the greatest resource guides on The Beatles American releases. The books are very well written with a text that is clear and concise. The reader is treated to high quality graphics of the album covers, front and back, with the corresponding record labels. His books make Beatles collecting very easy. It's hard for me to imagine them being surpassed in quality.
