The ABC program Paul McCartney Good Evening New York was a wonderful surprise to me, I really enjoyed it on a slow, late Thanksgiving night!
I realize Paul has always heavily redubbed vocals and things for his live releases and I suspect I caught a few places where that is true here including bits of the already edited for t.v. "Hey Jude" but I really had fun with this show.
It put Paul in a great light for not just us diehards but for the general public at large. Any music fan watching this would have left impressed by Paul.
My hats off for those responsible for this one hour program on ABC last night!

I thought the syncing of the '65 Shea version of "I'm Down" with Paul's 2009 version showed that Paul can still deliver it. It was even in the same key. Secondly, I don't think I have ever seen Paul (in person or on video) as emotional while singing Here Today. Surprised he kept it together. Now, the bad (or good if that's how one wants to spin it). I did not like the editing of the songs. The quality of the editing was excellent, but there were no leads to My Love and I Saw Her Standing There, for example. Gotta get those commercials in, I guess. At least they didn't cut in the middle of Hey Jude to go straight to the "na na na" ending.

Also not too many testimonials, for a change... Too bad the show wasn't longer, but "whaddya want for nothin'?"

Gotta get those commercials in, I guess. At least they didn't cut in the middle of Hey Jude to go straight to the "na na na" ending. That was my big problem. No guitar solos on songs like I Saw Her Standing There. For the folks planning to buy the DVD, they might assume it's missing there too! Regards, Beatle Bob

I didn't see the ABC show, and haven't yet watched the DVD I bought last week, so...
Was all the footage from the ABC show taken from the DVD (and edited for broadcast)?

JcS Joey: I haven't seen it yet, either, but an ABC spokesman told me there would be footage -- I don't know how much --- not in the DVD. And if you haven't bought it, seek out the deluxe version.

Anyone have a comparison of Beyonce's ratings vs Paul's? I suspect both were rather low, but Beyonce had more viewers. Also, what else was on at the same time and did those shows have higher ratings?

I blame the dismal #3 on our joeyself forgetting the show was on. Another glaring edit was the shortening of "Band On The Run." Well, it was still a fun program for a slow Thursday night!

The show was great. He probably killed in the 50-65 age group.

Paul's numbers were not much different from Beyonce's (around 5 million viewers) . . . Only you would round Paul up and Beyonce down and call it a tie.

Does it even matter what the ratings were? The main point is, will anyone give a damn about Beyonce in 45 years?
Case Closed! ;D

Does it even matter what the ratings were? The main point is, will anyone give a damn about Beyonce in 45 years? Case Closed! ;D That's true. The only reason I was curious about the ratings is that I want to see more specials focusing on the Beatles (or former Beatles) in the future. If the ratings are reasonable they will have more. I still say that if Paul had the better slot of 9-10 pm, he would have exceeded Beyonce's numbers.
