Yikes, this might be the worst UCLA basketball season and team in history! Who's your team and how are they expected to do this year?

Pitt, of course! ;D I don't really care for basketball, but I do participate in the March Madness polls, so I tend to only pay attention at that time of year. But from what I've heard so far, this year's Pitt team isn't going to be as good as last year's. JCV

[In my best Dick Vitale voice] Villanova Wildcats, baby! I 'm not sure what their prospects are this year, but the made the Elite 8 last year - not too shabby!

The rebuilding Indiana University Hoosiers, of course! It has been a tough several years for us because of the Knight firing, the Davis years of confusion and then the Kelvin Sampscum years but Hoosiers can't be held down forever! Go I.U., fight fight fight!

Wow! The rebuilding Indiana Hoosiers beat a good Pittsburgh (7-1) team tonight at the fabled Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Classic! Pitt was the clear favorite but the Hoosiers showed some of our old spunk! Maybe OldFred gave I.U. some good luck!
Go I.U., fight, fight, fight!
It was surreal as Bob Knight was part of the ESPN pre-game commentary crew and Knight spoke at halftime. This is the first time I have heard him utter the name "Indiana" since he was shamefully fired in 2000. I feel the thaw between Coach Knight and I.U. And you know that can't be bad, yeah, yeah, yeah!

The rebuilding Indiana University HoosiersJeez, you guys let Kentucky score 18 points in a row!? Oh, well, my Bruins have lost 5 games in a row.

I look for Kentucky to be in the Final Four, they are that good. Their freshmen are all "one and done" and will go pro but they are a great team right now.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Robert Morris, but I don't think they're going to last very long. So Go Bobby Mo! JCV

The rebuilding Indiana University Hoosiers, of course! Wow, No North Carolina, Indiana, or UCLA. When was the last time that happened? I agree that Kentucky looks like the team this year. The other brackets look like there are teams that could beat the respective #1 seeds of Kansas, Duke, and Syracuse.

Color the tournament....ORANGE Oh, is there some kind of basketball tourney going on? I hadn't noticed. With my Indiana Hoosiers not in the tourney for a second straight year, I am depressed, lonely and miserable. And to top it off, Purdue University is in the Sweet 16. You would think that I would be pleased that a University less than 40 miles from me is in the Sweet 16 but this is Indiana and I.U. fans mostly hate Purdue and they hate us. We have a monopoly though between the two schools as to N.C.A.A. Men's Basketball National Championships so screw P.U. I feel a little better.

Knight had some great teams in the early 1990's(We were in Final Four in 1992 albeit with an injured Alan Henderson) and we made that improbable run to the championship game in 2002 losing the title game to Maryland but it has been too long since we won it all. Good luck mikev to Syracuse, a University touched by John and Yoko with their huge art exhibit there in 1971, I think.

Oh man, what a weekend. I got killed on my one bracket when Kansas went out. I'm still alive on another with Kansas State and Kentucky in the final. We'll see what happens! Oh, and poor Pitt. They have the hardest time getting into the Sweet 16. JCV

It was John's 31st birthday, and Ringo was there as well- they even did a jam/sing-along of Paul's Uncle Albert, which has been bootlegged.

I am happy for them and what a story if they can get to the Final Four which would be a homecoming but nah, I am not out in the streets celebrating. Local Purdue got beat by Duke tonight. That one does not bother me because as a Hoosier, I have been conditioned to hate Purdue!

Final Four, baby! Against all odds! Dick Vitale said Thursday night that there was no way Butler could beat Kansas State. Diaper dandy, they're dancing at the Speedway baby, John Cougar Mellencamp!

Diaper dandy, they're dancing at the Speedway baby, John Cougar Mellencamp! Now that's more like it bro! I was a bit surprised by your initial post. You feel the same about Purdue as I feel about USC. I'd never never ever root for them, but if Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton, Pepperdine, or even San Diego State (120 miles away) where were Butler is now, I'd be all over that. 5 miles from home, huh. Is there some kind of conspiracy brewing? Isn't the Super Bowl in Indianapolis in a couple of years?

. . . Hell yes, sayne, "Hey Bulldog!" Final Four, baby! . . . 3.9 seconds! Gordon Hayward shoots from half-court! Butler wins if it goes in! It's long enough! It's high enough! The buzzer sounds!!!! OHHHHHHHHHH! Off the rim. Oh, my! Hey, Butler. Thanks for representing the little schools. You did them proud. Hold your head up. Yes, it's a cliche, but you did not lose. You just did not win. At least you got to play the game. Good on you.

It seemed to my buddy and I watching the game that Butler is relatively young as it seems there were a lot of sophomores, juniors and even some freshman out there. I like Butler's attitude: they are very upset about losing because they came there to win(not just be satisfied to be there) but they are taking the loss like men and using it for next year and the year after. Unlike the big programs, Butler has never had a player get to the NBA so that means Butler can build a real team, a team of veterans, not a bunch of superstars who are "one and done" after one or two years and go Pro. Success though can ruin the formula so Butler will be interesting to watch. Meanwhile all the Purdue University(West Lafayette, Indiana) fans are crying that their chances slipped away with the injury to Robbie Hummel. What babies! Michigan State fought hard with key injuries and still got to the Final Four. "Next man up!", if there is an injury. Meanwhile, my stepson and I were crying in our texts(and beer) last night about the complete absence from the tourney(and the season really) of our beloved Indiana Hoosiers. I.U. was runner-up in the tourney as recently as 2002(we lost to Champion Maryland with an injured Tom Coverdale, speaking of injuries! ) but we are now a billion miles from such lofty heights.

IU has no one to blame but themselves. When the athletic dept. hired Kelvin Sampson, a known violator of NCAA rules, they were asking for trouble and they got it. Now it will take a while to rebuild the team and the reputation of the program. Maybe they should try and recruit Brad Stevens away from Butler to try and rebuild the program..... Great game last night...one shot away from a miracle finish...Hoosier Hoops magic was everywhere except at that final shot. Haven't enjoyed a game this much since the 1987 final game, which culminated in the Keith Smart shot.

I mean the guy was a good Coach but he played much to loose with the rules, obviously to the point of breaking them. And we hired him just as he was getting nailed for violations at OK. What was our Admnistration thinking? Your mention of Keith Smart will make mikev sad as he is a huge Syracuse fan.
