Here is a link to Paul's new song called (I Want To) Come Home. It sounds pretty good. Pretty good!? It's the best song every written! That's saying a lot. It is definitely emotional and moving. The lyrics are quite introspective and heartfelt and the melody is classic McCartney. I just might agree with you. The movie is to be released December 4. It stars Robert De Niro. I hope it is as good as the song.

Gee, I'd never expect you to think that.

I like it too. But at the risk of sounding cynical, I wonder if Paul wrote this with the mind of getting another Oscar nomination for Best Song? Just a thought....

I think he set out to write the best song he could for the movie. I don't think he was thinking "Oscar". Does this song have the possibility of getting any airplay and possibly becoming a (big) hit? It should do well on the A/C charts if anything. I understand Paul is negotiating with Simon Cowell to appear on the X Factor in Britain on December 13. That is the grand finale of their season over and they would do a "Beatles Week" which they postponed last week. He would probably sing this song assuming it will be released as a single it could be a "Christmas No. 1" as they say over there. Its likely if he sings it on TV on the show which is very popular. Do you think Paul should do this or is it "beneath" him? In the past he has criticized these shows as being less than nurturing or encouraging of young talent.

However, I don't know if the single could "generate enough steam" in 2 short weeks to get to #1. Don't get me wrong, it'd be cool if he was able to swing it!

It looks like those on this thread have a decidedly different view of (I Want To) Come Home. It is anything but dull. It has a very distinctive piano intro which repeats during the song and at the very end, it has a standout verse and the middle is even better. You can't get it out of your head after you've heard it. As for the lyrics they are very introspective. Paul's delivery is heartfelt. The arrangement is fantastic. What's not to like. Its bloody Paul McCartney. Shoot oop. Paul must think something of it because he has put it into his live show. He sang it in Hamburg along with Ob la di, Ob la da (at last) and And I Love Her last night. Harry Connick Jr. has just done a jazz-influenced version of And I Love Her. Here is the link: popup.lala.com/popup/504684652369971818 Only the first play is full length. Subesquent plays are only 30 seconds. Next Paul has to add Maxwell's Silver Hammer to the set. That is if he can manage those semi-classical piano arpeggios as we hear on the record. The Paul Avenger strikes again!!! ;D

Fabfour as I recall you have never been a big fan of Paul's solo music. Maybe I'm wrong. I have all of Paul's Solo albums including quite a few bootlegs.I have just bought Good Evening New York City and i have most of his solo video's and dvd's,i'm a big fan...just ask my wife.... I used to think Paul was the best ,most talented artist in popular music by far but as i've got older i've started to notice his weaknesses and i think nowadays,at his vintage,he is in his comfort zone. I am glad he keeps performing and recording and releasing product but i like to have an open mind and offer criticism as i see fit , i may even make comments to generate some discussion to gauge whether i am being over critical.....

Fair enough. Some of your fellow countrymen have been a little hard on Paul because of his pull-out from that concert several years ago. I heard he has definite plans to play Australia (and Japan) in 2010. Have you heard anything about a concert in Australia?

I went the last time he toured here...in 1993...
he doesn't play downunder very much.....
my best guess is .....1964...1976...1993

You were getting pretty intense a while back(tax season?). You were joking too about hoping Paul adds "Maxwell" to his concerts? Now I'm joking as I suspect you were totally sincere. ;D

You were getting pretty intense a while back(tax season?). You were joking too about hoping Paul adds "Maxwell" to his concerts? Now I'm joking as I suspect you were totally sincere. ;D As for the intensity, that has reminded me about something I have wanted to rant about for a while. The bad economy has hit the Detroit area hard and I have had a lot of friends and family who have been affected. I can always fall back on taxes and I have been doing some financial planning consulting. Others in our state are not so fortunate. It seems like 2009 has been a real bummer here. I have been worried about the direction of the country and our future. It seems Washington is not serious about doing anything to really affect job creation. Government cannot really create a job in the private sector, but it can create insentives for businesses to hire. Small and medium sized businesses created 64% of all jobs between 1993 and 2008. We need tax breaks for these businesses, not more taxation!!! I am concerned about the cost of the health care bill (and the cap and trade carbon tax bill, but that is another rant). I am all for covering everyone who cannot afford health insurance and eliminating pre-existing condition as a reason to refuse to insure a person (they should limit premiums to only 20% higher than a healthy person) and reducing the cost of health care. However, we don't need the government involved!!! They are not good at controlling costs and will interfere with the doctor/patient relationship. Those who say we need a public option as competition for the insurance companies do not understand that the public option will take over and become the only choice within a number of years. If you have a business and find that paying the fine for not covering your employees is cheaper than covering them, you will most likely chose the cheapest alternative. The employees are then forced onto the public plan without any say in the matter. This will repeat with businesses all over the country until the private insurance companies have been driven out of business. I am not anti union. In fact I was in a union for many years. The car company unions are pushing this because they stand to gain billions of dollars given to them by GM, Ford and Chrysler when they made a deal for the unions to take over responsibility for their employees health care. With the public option, they can take those billions and use it for other things like pay raises for union officials. What they don't realize is that it is likely the Cadillac government plan carved out for them in the House and Senate bills will be more expensive than the premiums they are paying now. The great irony of the Senate bill is that it still keeps 24 million uninsured according to the CBO (Congressional Budget Office). Also, the bill doesn't bend the cost curve down. It raises costs when you consider the money is coming from new taxes. Also, when you compare 10 years of revenue with 10 years of cost, the true cost of the plan is $2.5 trillion which adds to the deficit enormously. There now I feel better.
