Okay, Paul didn't get an award, but here are some thoughts:
He looked great.
What' up with them having him come out with a song sung by Ringo?
Ricky Gervaise's joke about Paul flying coach because he was saving money as a result of all the money he spent last year was good.
Paul's joke about him now being known as "that guy in Rock Band" was good.
I don't know who was more thrilled. Paul for getting to sit next to Julia Roberts or Julia for sitting next to Paul. (Julia looked like she had died and gone to heaven). She made reference to all the text messages she had been receiving from friends when they saw she was sitting next to Paul.

I thought Gervais was very funny all night. Some people didn't appreciate the McCartney joke, but it was tame compared to some of the others he told.

What' up with them having him come out with a song sung by Ringo? The song was written by Paul, and they probably chose it because Robert Zemeckis is going to film a re-make of the cartoon and they are plugging it. Didn't Paul plug the re-make in his speech last evening?

Didn't Paul plug the re-make in his speech last evening? Bingo. It was an interesting night. I saw him on the red carpet with Nancy and he had this enormous umbrella. The interviewer asked him where he got the umbrella and Paul said he has an assistant who takes care of all those things. It was kind of funny. Nancy looked very nice and even spoke a few words. She was asked if she was having a good time or something and she responded positively in a rather quiet voice. The celebrities (movie stars etc.) seemed very excited about seeing him. I also thought Paul's line about now being known as "the guy from Rock Band" was funny. He delivered it with a small amount of derision.

I know it was mentioned already but the Gervais lines went like this:
I am honored to have Sir Paul McCartney in the audience--a fellow Brit and I am not ashamed to say I am pulling for him to win best song. We flew over from England together, but I didn't get to talk to him because I was in first class and he was in coach. Paul nodded, going along with the gag.
Then Gervais said Paul was in coach because he had to save money seeing how much he had to give out last year (divorce settlement). The crowd laughed and groaned equally. Paul put his had over his mouth in mock suprise.

She also thought the joke was in bad taste, but I guess Paul didn't seem to mind - either that, or he hid it well.

Doesn't really make sense - at this time, to me.

I was a little taken aback when Gervais mentioned it indirectly. The audience booed and laughed. I think beneath the surface Paul wasn't too thrilled. He won't be joining a fan club for Gervais soon.

There were a lot of very sexy low cut dresses especially Mariah Carey's. Now I know why they call it the Golden Globes.
