If you were given the task of assembling the Beatles Get Back/Let It Be album, how would you go about doing it? What songs or takes of songs would you use? What would be your ideal track listing?
First of all, I would keep the same track listing as the 1970 "Let It Be" album. However, I would make some changes to certain songs.
Two of Us (same as 1970 album)
Dig A Pony (same live take, but with the "all I want is you" lines restored)
Across the Universe (Anthology 2 version)
I Me Mine (original length restored)
Dig It (expanded to 4 minutes, as it appeared on the unreleased "Get Back" album)
Let It Be (single version, without January 1970 overdubs)
Maggie Mae (same as 1970 album)
I've Got A Feeling (same as 1970 album)
One After 909 (same as 1970 album)
The Long and Winding Road (Anthology 3 version)
For You Blue (Anthology 3 version)
Get Back (single version)
Also, I would add in the b-side "Don't Let Me Down" (somewhere in the first half of the album) and keep the dialogue intact.

A friend of mine is very close friends with Jimmy McCracklin, whose song "The Walk" was also done during the "Get Back" session (sung by Paul, if you remember). I'd definitely include that for two reasons: One, it was a good song and two, McCracklin hoped it would be included somehow since he got no royalties from the bootleg releases.

My Get Back album is a two disc affair that consists of Glyn Johns' first mix of the album and Dr Ebbetts' Last Licks Live, along with a collection of outtakes drawn from Anthology 3 and Purple Chick's Let It Be which includes "I Me Mine" and "Across The Universe" from Johns' second mix. Still fiddling with the other outtakes, of course.

If we're truly fantasizing, I would've like to have a double album with most of the lennon, mccartney and harrison songs that they released later on as well as some demos that were never completed to be completed by mccartney and ringo now .
Two of Us (same as 1970 album)
Dig A Pony (with altered lyrics; great tune but terrible lyrics and john had always considered this a throwaway)
Across the Universe (Anthology 2 version)
I Me Mine
Dig It (expanded to 4 minutes, as it appeared on the unreleased "Get Back" album or with altered lyrics w/o yoko's screeching; again, a great tune but was never finished)
Let It Be (single version, without January 1970 overdubs)
Maggie Mae (same as the Get Back album)
I've Got A Feeling (same as 1970 album)
One After 909 (same as 1970 album)
The Long and Winding Road (Anthology 3 version)
For You Blue (Anthology 3 version)
Get Back (single version)
Don't Let me Down (single version)
Disk 2
Because I know you'd love me so (a complete version)
Teddy Boy (sans the mock ho down)
I lost my little girl (lennon's arrangement but with mccartney singing since it's mccartney's song)
Watching Rainbows (a finished version ala Real Love, Free as a Bird)
Suzy Parker
All things Must Pass
Isn't it a Pity
Let it down
Imagine (Lennon had the piano chords worked out during the sessions)
Gimme some truth
I think this is a more balanced record as opposed to the Mccartneycentric Let it Be. I really like Watching Rainbows and I think that it could've been a really strong single if Lennon had finished it. Imagine (pardon the pun) if Lennon had finished Imagine and it was on the same album as Let it Be. Whoa, how cool would that be? That would be some strong album.

In terms of a tight, commercially viable representation of the 'Let it Be' sessions, I think 'Let it be....naked' is pretty close to as good as you'll get.
The track selection for 'LIB....N' is spot on (Glyn Johns made such a hash of assembling the right track-listing back in '69 / '70, but to be honest the best tracks really pick themselves).
My only slight gripe with 'Naked' is that it's a bit too polished. What happened to the studio banter, the bum notes and the rough edges that were supposed give the album a live, spontaneous feel? It's like all the imperfections have been airbrushed out. One or two of the tracks conspicuously fade out, when they could have been allowed to run through to their proper, if slightly ragged, ending.
That aside, I think 'Naked' is a well-crafted, well-assembled album...and it holds together far better than the original version. Many of the additional songs that people are suggesting are great for die-hard fans, but wouldn't wash with the general record-buying public, IMO.

This thread brings me to my pet peeve about "Let It Be...Naked," which is that the second disc of studio patter really didn't provide any added value to the package.
What I would've liked to have seen, and would have paid for -- although I'm sure Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia wouldn't have gone for it -- is this:
Disc 1: LIB...N Disc 2: LIB, 1970 release Disc 3: Get Back, Glyn Johns mix, version 1 Disc 4: Get Back, Glyn Johns mix, version 2
THAT would've been an interesting package!

Rounding out LIBN's 2nd disc should have been the entire "rooftop performance" (with some edits to tighten it up, such as on the Dr. Ebbetts "Last Licks" CD) but also remixed. Otherwise I enjoy LIBN as intended: A remixed/remastered version of the album. Regards, Beatle Bob :)

Here's the tracklist I've burned to CD for the car.
All tracks are LIBN unless otherwise noted in parentheses. I picked the A3 version of TLAWR because I like the alternate lyric choices better and Paul's falsetto "Don't leave me waiting" at the end really makes the song. And John fading out on ATU is the perfect way to end Side One...
This is the best mix of polished and rough edges/banter, and I dig the flow of the track list. "I've Got a Feeling" into "Let it Be" is sublime. Try it!
SIDE 1 1. Get Back 2. One After 909 3. Don't Let Me Down 4. Maggie Mae (LIB) 5. For You Blue 6. The Long and Winding Road (A3) 7. Across the Universe
SIDE TWO 8. I Me Mine 9. Two of Us 10. Dig It (LIB) 11. Dig a Pony 12. I've Got a Feeling 13. Let it Be
**One modification I am ready to make when the remasters come in September is to replace the LIBN version of "Get Back" with the cleaned-up, hiss-free single version from Past Masters. I just love the "high heeled shoes, and a low neck sweater" ending.**

Why they left that coda off on Naked-we may never know...
My ipod features back to back main and naked. I thought of throwing a Get Back mix in, but I have about 8 different versions.

I have actually assembled a single disc collection that I think is perfect and a great listening experience. Put these tracks together and see what you guys think:
01. Get Back (from 1) 02. Dig A Pony (LIB) 03. One After 909 (LIB) 04. Don't Let Me Down (Pastmasters 2) 05. I've Got A Feeling (LIB) 06. Across The Universe (Anthology 3) 07. All Things Must Pass (Anthology 3) 08. Maggie Mae (LIB) 09. Two Of Us (Naked) 10. For You Blue (Naked) 11. Medley: Shake, Rattle-Rip-Blue Suede (Anthology 3) 12. Dig It (LIB) 13. Mailman, Bring Me No More Blues (A3) 14. Let It Be (LIB) 15. The Long & Winding Road (LIB---I just prefer the strings lol) 16. I Me Mine -short version- (A3) 17. Get Back (LIB)
I tried to keep certain sections together. For example rooftop selections are together and acoustic tunes are together for the most part. On mine I also added Let It Be (1) and The Long & Winding Road (Naked) as bonus cuts. I think this is great for the diehards and also a good listen for the casual fans.

Every time I go down this road, I end up pulling out hair because I start adding bootleg cuts -- I Lost My Little Girl, fast Get Back, etc. -- I should just go with yours, all from legit releases.

Jellyzero 79 has an interesting collection.
I like the longer version of Dig It and the version of Let it Be with both lead guitars.
I think I'll make an ipod collection with all of the above-but of course not all of the Nagra sections. Definitely gems like I Lost My Little Girl, Paul singing I'm So Tired and John's amazing studio-like version of Penny Lane (just kiddin folks).
I struggle between production and rawness. I like Spector's work and wonder what those remasters will sound like. I also like elements of Naked even though it really is "Edit Be".

Is "Get Back" from 1 a remastered version of the Past Masters track or the Let It Be track? I don't own it...
Jelly, yours is a good mix too, a bit broader and more compilation-like, but still not too out of hand... I love the A2 version of ATU the best, but to me it was always too hippy and Indian sounding to fit in with the band's other '69 tracks, that's why I go with the spare LIBN version. Strangely, I never considered including George's ATMP demo...interesting idea! ATMP could fit well in my tracklist between Two of Us and Dig it!

"Get Back" from 1 is also the Past masters version. To me, that demo belongs there. It is almost as bare as the best versions of ATU and it fits.

Cool! I never purchased 1 (or listened to it closely), now all I have to do is buy the remastered "Get Back" single on iTunes...oh wait...
My REVISED Tracklist (all are LIBN unless otherwise noted):
SIDE 1 1. Get Back (1) 2. One After 909 3. Don't Let Me Down 4. Maggie Mae (LIB) 5. For You Blue 6. The Long and Winding Road (A3) 7. Across the Universe
SIDE TWO 8. I Me Mine 9. Two of Us 10. Dig It (LIB) 11. Dig a Pony 12. All Things Must Pass (A3) 13. I've Got a Feeling 14. Let it Be

I recommend 1 simply for the amazing sound quality. After hearing that you will crave the remastered albums due out in September.

I've never been happy with the LIB album. Done at Apple studios, it lost all the feel and ambiance of recording done by the Beatles at Abbey Road studios. Never have I been happy the way it sounded on LP or CD all these years. I have more preferred the more recent LIBN disc because the remixes and new takes used, had a freshness and vitality lacking from the original album and brought life to the songs. I also liked the fact that LIBN got rid of the dialogue, noodling around, etc--that gave it an unfinished and bootleg feel. BUT...the new remaster brings LIB back to life and I have been totally overwhelmed by the improved fidelity and stereo separation from the original LP master. I still could so without the dialogue, cleaning and tightening it up as it did by eliminating in on LIBN. I do wish they would have added Don't Let Me Down. The album is incomplete without it. A special edition of this album would have to include the entire rooftop performance in stereo, using judicious edits to tighten the concert to get rid of the chatter and talk that slows down the performance (ala Dr. Ebbetts Last Licks rooftop CD). I'd also include performances from the next day's "basement peformance"(that always seem to be overlooked) to include add'l versions of Let It Be, Long and Winding Road and Oh Darling. Regards, Beatle Bob

I like the Let it Be album as is...the naked album is like someone's remix done years later,i wonder if John would have approved of it....
