Here's a rare piece of footage of John Lennon and Harry Nilsson at the April 28th, 1974 March of Dimes Benefit in Central Park hosted by 'Cousin' Brucie Morrow. It's nice to see a rare moment in Lennon's life resurface.

Wow, those more informal days of early 1974! Actually that was quite scary from a security and safety standpoint. The stage looked rather haphazardly built and there was little to no security or police presence from what we can see from the video.
When John and Harry take the stage it sounds as if there is a near riot and Bruce Morrow, or whoever the "MC" is is yelling at the crowd to not just be quiet but to calm down or sit down.
It seems that when John and Harry first come out there is a surge towards the stage and Lennon looks like he is manhandled off the stage to get him away from the surge. He and Harry seem to come out a second time and a Q & A session is attempted with little luck, the crowd is too noisy and unruly.
Wow, John was right on top of thousands of people with very little protection. That would never, ever happen today with any star.
It was cool seeing John in this film as he looks great and seems to be in a good mood despite the complete chaos of that event. It again raises the "what if" John was still alive.

That is a cool video Fred but I was truly frightened for John as the crowd, in their genuine love for John, look like they are about ready to overtake the stage! By the way, was that you, Fred, yelling " Yeah, way to go John, yeah John! ;D I heard that loud voice and I instantly thought OldFred! It was early 1974 so I knew it couldn't be JoeK as he was still too young to have that loud of a voice.

I did get to meet John twice in front of the Dakota in 1978 and 79, and I met Harry Nilsson at Beatlefest in the mid-80's. Here's a very rare video of Nilsson performing live at Beatlefest. He was notorious for never having done a tour, so to have him up on stage performing live was a rare treat. Yes, his voice was sadly wiskeyed out, but you take what you get sometimes. (Like George Harrison, 1974 )
