That song by Lady Gaga they keep playing on the radio is great. But somehow, every time I hear it I get this unsettling feeling of impending apocalypse.

Maybe because I live the other side of the Atlantic, or maybe just because of my complete ignorance, I rarely pay attention to R&R Hall of Fame. I think that should be a separate thread in all honesty. This thread was about the shifting relationships between the Beatles.
I think we've discussed the 70s and how Paul was on the outside and then almost made things up with John. Ringo was always mates with the others after the initial two years after the breakup. And how George seemed to be part of an anti-Paul alliance for a year or two but then appeared to alienate John as well.
We may never definitively know if he met John in September 1980 at the Monty Python Show unless Yoko or one of the Pythons recalls it and makes it public. After that there is still the 80s and 90s where the 3 surviving guys seemed to be very guarded about their relationships in the media. Why did George have a walrus playing a left handed bass in his video "When We Was Fab?". Why did Jeff Lynne produce one of Paul's finest album's and Ringo played on it when he was such a great mate of George? I'd like to think the after the Anthology project Paul, George and Ringo had accepted their position in history as Beatles. Now we just have Paul and Ringo to tell us so.

Madonna is still the undisputed queen of pop to this day Lady Gaga has taken that throne. If Gaga was eligible, I'd vote her in ahead of Madonna. LOL! Methinks that we'll have to wait a few more decades to see if this Lady Gaga has the staying power, number of hits, or influence of Madonna. Impact-wise, Madonna is the female Elvis. I suspect people will not be going ga-ga over Gaga and her 15 minute of fame for very long. Those larger than life accomplishments have already been done with Elvis, The Beatles, Dylan, Michael Jackson, and Madonna.

Gaga has impressed me more with two albums than Madonna has in her entire career. On the flip side, I like Madonna as an actress. Give her an Oscar and a lifetime achievement award instead of the H.O.F. You have got to be kidding me! Lady Gaga totally sucks. There is absolutely NO substance to her songs. At best she is a 2nd rate Madonna wannabe.

It goes back to the old adage. Quantity over Quality. If you believe in the former, play your Madonna records till you drop over. I come from the school of quality. Gaga's stuff is far superior than Madonna's was in their infant beginnings. Not only will Gaga prevail in the end, but reduce the great Madonna to footnote status in the annals of pop music.

. . . reduce the great Madonna to footnote status in the annals of pop music. In the case of Madonna, it should be the "anals" of history.

One Madonna show at Wembley stadium will make as much money as a Lady Ca-Ca tour. Madonna , been there, done that and still doing it.

'Play my Madonna records til I drop'? First of all, I don't even own any of Madonna's music; I'm just opening my eyes and ears though and am being objectively observant. I'm no fan, but I recognize what she's accomplished. And I do like some of her songs. I can't comment on the quality of Lady Gaga's music because I haven't heard it; it may be quite good indeed. But I'll stand by my feeling that there are no new frontiers left to conquer and that I don't think Gaga will have much staying power or infleunce historically in the annals of pop music. I'll bet nobody's talking about her by this time next year.

And The Rolling Stones' empire. People still go ga ga for Mick and Keith never fails to create a buzz. Oh, I like the Stones a lot and think they're among the greatest rockers ever. I left them out of my grouping though, only because I'm not sure if they've got that kind of "iconic" status of Elvis, Beatles, Dylan, Madonna, Jackson. The Stones to me are great but more down to Earth, not thought of in that "larger than life" way, if I'm explaining it right.

Today Madonna is an icon and Laupier is on Celebrity Trump... Yes I was wrong. Madonna always reinvented herself. Bonnie Raitt still has the same haircut she had in 1977. I know Bonnie has nothing to do with this thread- but I had to throw that in there. I would never go to a Madonna concert and only like two songs, Oh Father and the Austin Powers song, but I think she could make an excellent rock album if she tried.

Her recent stuff is fantastic starting from Ray of Light up to and including Hard Candy. I've said this before and I'll say it again, she has a Lennon quality to her singing that sets her apart. She's no squealer like Mariah Carey and can't sing as good as Whitney Houston but she knows how to get into a song and take you places quite unlike more heralded singers.

I do own Cyndi Lauper's 1984 album SHE'S SO UNUSUAL - I think that's a great album. Generally speaking, I like Cyndi's stuff. I do think Madonna has natural talent though. She can sing, she can dance... that's a talent. I don't think it was all about re-invention or self-promotion, though that too may be considered a PR talent!

Ga Ga writes her own songs and is a talented pianist.....
I'm not sure where Madonna fits in comparison to those 2 points...

I know Madonnas had a few movie flops but you Still know when she has an album out-That's not true of many artists from the 80s. Madonna, U2, Sting/Police maybe? Probably a few others, but not a whole lot. Yikes-this thread a taken a detour

She has got the musical talent. It is up to her if she wants to come up with the substance.

So on that day Paul and Linda woke up , looked at each other and said " hey, let's wear orange overalls to the studio today, we won't be Wings today, let's be the mandarins !!! " Was this Linda's failed attempt at being the lead guitarist in Wings ? or is she just dusting off the dirt on her guitar ?

Very interesting thread (need to catch up on some reading here... ... Especially with the Keith Badman Quote...? Steve (Stavros)....As far as I know: George didn’t see John in 1979 or 1980. When George and Ringo were guests on Aspel and Co in 1988, George said he hadn’t seen John “in a couple of years” before John’s murder. George also said in an August 1979 LA press conference promoting his “George Harrison” album that he hadn’t seen John “in two or three years.”
So Ringo (after doing some research) was the last Beatle to see John alive. That was on Wednesday, November 26th, 1980 - Ringo & Barbara joined John & Yoko at New York's Plaza Hotel and spent almost five apparently enjoyable hours in each other's company, concluding with John's agreement to appear on Ringo's next album...... The Last Photo of John Lennon and George Harrison Together (Troubadour nightclub in Los Angeles, California in mid November of 1974)
