Friday I took my son, Zak, on his first visit to the University of Illinois -- that's his No. 1 choice when he leaves home in 2009.
As we were on the tour, our guide pointed out a building that had actually been moved from Germany in pieces to the campus (and others) in the early 20th century. It was a German castle of sorts and includes a bell tower. We happened to be there at the right time to hear the bells. The song changed and our guide looked at me and said, "Is that the Beatles?" It was "Yesterday," and I noted the irony to my son with a grin as we walked on.

Now for my wife, he's named after Zak Mayo from An Officer and a Gentleman. Perfect compromise because we both insisted on the K instead of Zach.

Perfect compromise because we both insisted on the K instead of Zach. Interesting. We have friends who named their son Logan because a) Dad was (and is!) a big X-Men fan, and b) Mom's favorite movie is "Logan's Run". So you're not alone.

For all the pain in helping finance children's post-secondary education, there are many returns such as visiting them on campus or, in your case, going on that very first tour. I got a little misty eyed with your post even though I am an Indiana University Hoosier, through and through. ;D
