Just arrived from a book club sale. The Lennon one has a DVD with the last filmed Lennon/McCartney interview.
I will report in due course!

I look forward to your review, vectis. I happened to hear Larry Kane speak at a book signing in San Francisco when his work first came out. His perspective as one of the press group during the Fabs' first tour of the US is intriguing.

Haven't started reading either book yet, but I've watched the DVD which came with the Lennon one, which has an interview with Kane which is a good teaser for the book. It also has the full interview with John and Paul at the St Regis on the launch of Apple, which is touted as the last filmed John/Paul interview. There have been bits of that interview all over the place, but it's the first time I've seen all of it. John comes over as rather acid, and it's clear that John and Paul are still fairly tight. Weird to see Paul singing Magic Alex's praises. There's also a short bit of John doing the weather report on the TV station where Kane was the news anchor.

Making progress with the Larry Kane one. Some bits in it that I either didn't know or had forgotten, like John found in Las Vegas hotel room on '64 tour with underage twins, and mother foaming at the mouth at hotel reception. Lennon maintains he invited them in to watch TV. Larry Kane deputised to soothe foaming mother. Daughters arrive in lobby happy as bunnies. Possibly a non-story, possibly not.

The Beatles were bad boyzzz !! They were. From Hamburg on... To this day many people think the Fabs were straight and the Stones were not.

Finished the Kane one. Not bad - some bits in it I wasn't aware, the main one being some detail over John turning up at the Philadelphia telethon. I could have done without the lengthy final chapter of random people chipping in tributes.

There's also a short bit of John doing the weather report on the TV station where Kane was the news anchor. I remember that! I grew up in the Philadelphia area. Larry was The Anchor Who Never Blinked to me ( also The Man Who Kicked John Facenda Off The Air , which I know was a gross oversimplification, but hey, I was a kid! Those of you who are from Philadelphia know what I mean, the rest of you, nevermind. ;D) I never realized Larry's "Beatle connection" until he did some interviews in the 80s.

The McCartney one is turning out to be a weird one. One the one hand, there's a distinct "Paul did this. Oh, and the others might have chipped in a bit" air to it. On the other hand, it keeps mentioning his sexual adventures and some of his nasty side in such a way that, if I were him, it's not a book I would care for at all.

Finished the McCartney one - as is often the case with books in book sales, it isn't up to date (Heather is pregnant as it finishes). I didn't care for it - it had an unpleasant, salacious taste to it, bur without most of the less savoury anecdotes (which may well be true) being adequately sourced.
