Do we know of any the boys used. I figure they had to have a way to distinguish between George Harrison and George Martin in the studio.
Also, George calls Ringo Richey on Living in the Material World. Was that what they called Ringo in the group?
BTW, I had to re-register, so I lost all of my posting credit.

According to the rec.music.beatles FAQ section, Paul was known as Macca (so it was the Beatles and not the tabloids which thought up the name... : George was Hazza, and John was Lennie (I believe!). The nicknames apparently developed while they were in Hamburg. Ringo apparently didn't have one, but as above, George H. called him Richie (or Ringo!) I always wondered how they distinguished George H. from George M. myself, as even Lewisohn can be vague in several references...

I'm told that those who know him don't call him Ringo. It's Richie.

Paul calls Ringo Ritchie in Let It Be. I suppose that's fair enough, what with it being his name and all.

John called Paul the c-word while recording How Do You Sleep, but I don't think that was his regular nickname.
I do remember reading that the other Beatles sometimes referred to Paul as "fat little schoolgirl."

Wasn't Paul referred to as 'Beatle Ed' by John and George over breakfast in the 'Imagine' film. He'd reached 'No. 5 in Sweden', apparently. You can hear John call Paul 'Macca' at the beginning of one of the 'Help' outtakes on Anthology II -- I think it's on 'It's only love' (or possibly '...Hide your love away'.) SuperHans.

A bootlegged version of "Across The Universe" (the one with the backwards guitars inserted into the chorus) begins with Lennon saying "You're right, Ritchie," followed by the strum of a D chord and a few bass drum kicks before the song comes in. NP: Eric Clapton, "Forever Man," Complete Clapton

Can you imagine having one of your best friends, who has a stage name you have to call him by? Well, like I said, we're talking about people who know him personally. Interviewers don't come under that category, for the most part.

I'm told that those who know him don't call him Ringo. It's Richie. Yes....Ringo is Ritchie. Paul is Macca. Besides the "fakeouts"(Harri Georgessen, Dr. Winston O'Boogie) I don't know of any others. Speaking of "Ritchie"----- A few years ago, I had tickets to see Ringo at the Grand Casino in Gulfport, MS(since destroyed by Katrina). I had seen Pete Best a few months before and had a few things signed by him. I brought that stuff in the hope(a faint one at that) of getting Ringo to sign it. Imagine....both Beatles drummers in one spot! Anyway...the night of the show, I'm standing out back by the artists' entrance waiting for them to come in. Someone had told me this venue had NO dressing rooms so the van came in multiple times. Finally, about 5 minutes before showtime(and the 5th van to come through the gate), it was obvious I wouldn't have a shot in hell to get anything signed. When the van came in, Ringo got out and everyone started shouting "Ringo". My wheels were spinning to figure out a way to at least get his attention. Suddenly, it hit me: RITCHIE! A few steps before him walking in, I shouted out...."Hey Ritchie!". He came to a halt, turned, and looked at me. I gave him a thumbs up. He smiled, gave me the thumbs up and walked in the building. Didn't get to meet him or have a signature, but at least I got his attention. After he went in, a bunch surrounded me and started asking me how I thought about that. Just thought for a second and just said....you just have to know what to do....... :-) Outside of Pete, the closest I'll ever get to a Beatle.
