My friend Bob Ortiz, also known as DJ Roberto Cano on the original WKTU 92 FM, passed away last night from cancer. He developed throat cancer a couple of years ago which required the removal of his voice box. I visited him at the hospital yesterday and he didn't look good, his breathing was labored. I worked with him on stage in several shows. He was a good friend. I ask for prayers for his family at this time. Thank you. God bless you, Bob. I pray you are at peace, my dear friend.

On Saturday there was a memorial for my friend Bob Ortiz at Grace Church in New York City. I was happy that there was a big turn out for Bob by friends in Radio and the Arts. I gave the eulogy and included these stories in my rememberances: In his career, Bob met and knew a lot of people in entertainment and politics. Bob once told me that he met and interviewed Groucho Marx, and me being a huge Marx Brothers fan, all I could say was “Wow!”. Bob was also quite a jokester. Bob’s cousin Ivan told me the story of how once Bob asked Ivan “Do you want to call John Lennon?” Bob took out his Rolodex, dialed the number, and left John Lennon a crank call! Boy, that took guts. And Bob had them.In contacting friends of Bob on his passing, I was surprised to learn that one of the folks Bob knew was May Pang. I was able to get in touch with her and she was so kind and gracious in her remarks and sent her condolences to Bob's family. Funny how in my friend Bob's life that there was a Beatle connection. Thank you, Bob.
