Stolen from Steve Hoffman Forums (apologies to JQW, original poster) "According to a Mojo subscriber who has received his copy today in the post, there are going to be re-masters, but at the moment there's no indication as when they'll arrive. The magazine got invited to Abbey Road to listen to 10 of the re-mastered tracks from the White Album." Also, stolen from SH Forums, (apologies to Sallymae Hogsby, original poster)- "Someone at www.quadraphonicquad.com claims to have insider information that: - the announcement will be made next month - a deluxe edition will include 5.1 surround - new stereo mixes for both standard and deluxe editions (original stereo mixes being retired) - mono mixes and extra tracks on the deluxe edition - deluxe edition might also include hardbound book" Let the speculation commence forthwith! ;D

I got a note from a different subscriber. I'll have the info on later tonight, but the gist of what he posted is that MOJO heard White Album tracks, not that the White Album is the first one, at least the way I read it.

It has to start sometime and somewhere. Why not the White Album? Could we be getting more stellar quality esher demos? 27 minute Helter Skelter. I am about to pee my pants....too late.

I am about to pee my pants....too late. Classy. Could we be getting more stellar quality esher demos? Are there actually any more Esher demos? I was under the impression we had them all ... 27 minute Helter Skelter. I think the version on the White Album is quite long enough. I feel Helter Skelter is a somewhat overrated song: it fails its basic premiss, as stated so often by Macca, to produce a totally loud and raucous sound a la The Who. What it eventually became (as on WA) is a good song, energetically played, and well sung by Macca. However, to enjoy it for 27 minutes, it would have to have more contrasts, more light and dark, some subtleties.

I'm sure more info will pop up tomorrow after I post all the new info tonight. It usually does.

We all know that John and George were not exactly Duane Allman and Eric Clapton, so I'm sure the 27 minute jam is not the holy grail we all think.
I'd rather have a mono, a stereo, a 5:1 and the complete first generation Esther demos professionally mixed.

This reminds me....something that jumped off the page in the first Mojo 'White Album' edition last month. Yoko was asked to say a few words about her memories of that time...
"I loved them all and it was an immense privilege to have been there. When the White Album comes out again, I will buy a couple, keep one for myself and send one to my musician son."
There you go! What more proof do you need?

I loved the 30th Anniversary Limited Edition White Album. I bought five of them giving copies to my two stepsons, one to my brother and I kept two(one of which is still unopened). These weren't remastered of course but the packaging reproduced that of the original album! The posters were included too, albeit c.d. size. Steve, when did you start your Abbeyrd News Site? I started visiting your site religiously right before Paul got knighted. Steve had the most comprehensive coverage of that event including the news that Linda wasn't up to going because of her illness. I mention that because I then remember Steve's exhaustive coverage in 1998 of this 30th Anniversary Edition of The White Album. Steve gave us a chart of radio stations around the world which were set to cover a radio special on the White Album which promised to include rare outtakes not even on Anthology. Sadly, the radio program was cancelled for lack of interest!! I have #'s 0170529 and 0106599 of the 30h Edition version.

Thanks for answering, Steve. 1997 sounds right though for when you started giving us the best Beatles' news reports on the web or anywhere else. I know you were reporting the knighthood story. That was March 11, 1997.

I don't know if the remasters will be worth the EXTRA LONG wait, but I do believe they will be great and really well done, both the music and the packaging. To be able to hear the original mono mixes (cleaned up of course) next to new hi-tech stereo mixes with actual bass and crystal clear instrumentation will be a revelation. I don't care if there are bonus tracks or not (I personally think we won't see bonus tracks until the iTunes release later in 2009 as "album only" songs--hello Carnival of Light!), I just want to hear RAIN, SHE SAID SHE SAID, TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS, OH! DARLING, even THE BALLAD OF JOHN AND YOKO and OLD BROWN SHOE in all their glory...It's all happening, and I hope they all come out on the same date in the first quarter of 2009. (fingers crossed)

Nah! Forget all this. I reckon Apple have the following releases and merchandising up their sleeve for 2009: - NEW DVD: "Cirque du soleil -- the funniest bits: out-takes and bloopers!" ;D - 3D Beatles calendar featuring free astrological year-planner - A brand new range of Beatles mugs with limited edition Magic Alex coffee-spoon I'm sure, as usual, Apple will get their priorities right!

I did see a rather interesting looking Sgt. Pepper 2009 wall calendar in an octagon shape at Borders Books yesterday. It's supposed to be exclusive to Borders. I might just go back and snag it!
