PS. But, seriously, I've been to many places around the world, and I have to say that driving from the airport to Pittsburgh will lead you to one of the most beautiful and stunning cityscapes (especially in the evening) in the world. Coming out of a very long tunnel (I don't know it's name), you suddenly see down below you the downtown area bounded by the three rivers. It is absolutely breathtaking. Spectacular! I'll leave it to our Pittsburgh friends to post a photo. You are so right, sayne. The whole post is true! I see you've been studying up for your visit n'at! I can only lead you to a link to a Website with some nice pictures, but it's worth the trip, all! And that would be the Fort Pitt Tunnel and Bridge you crossed, sayne. pittsburghskyline.com/content/2006/06/13/pieces-of-pittsburgh/JCV

I suppose what I'm driving at it this: As well as being hampered by some botched post-production by Messrs. Johns and Spector, is 'Let it be' the unfortunate victim of post-split revisionism by the Beatles themselves...?

I see you've been studying up for your visit n'at! I've been to Three Rivers Stadium to see a Pirates' game. I saw the photo of the new baseball stadium, so I know where that is, but where is the football stadium in relation to the former Three Rivers Stadium?

> Our top story tonight OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT!!!!!!! Sorry, that's the second time in less than twenty-four hours that something somebody said reminded me of an ancient Garret Morris routine! richforman That "News for the Hard of Hearing" schtick WAS great, wasn't it? Here's a link to a MP3 of it. The original cast of SNL (with Chevy Chase) put out a vinyl LP on Arista in '76, I believe. And that did eventually make it to CD, albeit with a totally different album cover; this was ripped from that CD. www.mediafire.com/?jn6h8mri6ce Enjoy!

I just checked YouTube for a vintage video clip of Garrett Morris doing "News for the Hard of Hearing" on Saturday Night Live. I didn't find a vintage clip, but I did find a pretty good re-creation, using Garrett Morris on some cooking show. It doesn't begin with the infamous "OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT," but at least you'll get the idea... NP: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (thanks to my 3-year-old!)

This has ended up a strange thread.... Look on the bright side, we could be talking about the majesty of Madison Square Garden, the genius of Brian Wilson, or the greatness of Davy Jones, David Cassidy, and the Fab Faux.

And what is wrong with talking about David Cassidy? That's what I say. I'm seeing him tonight with Davy Jones in Staten Island and it's going to be swell! ;D P.S.: Sign the petition to get 'Let It Be' officially released on DVD. If you can't find the petition, start one yourself! Do I have to do everything?

And what is wrong with talking about David Cassidy? Actually, nothing if one is also into the White Stripes, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Raconteurs, Green Day, the Duke Spirit, Of Montreal or any number of "today" indie bands instead of being only into Brian Wilson/Beach Boys, David Cassidy, Monkees/Davy Jones/Mike Nesmith, Billy Joel, Beatles, Dave Clark Five, etc. Looking back is fine if one is also moving forward. Some people here have stopped the car, parked, thrown away the keys, and gotten out to forever look back. Others here are driving on and on, occasionally pull off to gaze back at the vista they drove through, then move on looking for new views. Kind of a corny metaphor, but I sometimes think that time is wasted debating about past artists. It was okay being a kid and arguing about the Beatles vs the Four Seasons. But, today? Seems a bit, well, um, crotchety. If one is going to see Davy Jones, David Cassidy, the Who, Ringo, Neil Diamond, or any other nostalgia band, fine. I do it myself, too. But, feed your head. Go out and check out what's new, too. You know the saying, "Dance like there is no one around"? Well, listen to new music like when you were 17.

No bands today have ANY staying power. Name one, and I don't mean mainstream U2/REM/Green Day/Coldplay/Radiohead, most of which are played on classic rock stations.
I wish I didn't have to live in the past. Everytime I start to like a band, five years later I'm wondering what ever happened to their second album.
Indies today benefit from the internet as anyone can put out their own tunes- but the market thus is saturated.

I forgot to mention Foo Fighters.
I think in a What If of Cobain living (he was a rock-n-roll lemming so that was unlikely), if he allowed Grohl more artistic license-who knows where they could have gone.
The Jonus Brothers are the Hansen of the 0s...

That place is like boomer central. In some respects it's even worse there because you'll have people getting in full on flamewars about EQ levels on a Gary Lewis remaster from 1994.

"I'll give that a try, but what will you accept as "staying power", how far back should I go, and how should I interpret "mainstream"? "
Okay-I looked all over for directions, how do you box in a quote??
Anyway-staying power is at least three charting albums and perhaps a few successful singles. Staying power is also filling at least an arena, but a stadium on occasion would be nice.
Mainstream is basically not indy or alternative-because if either becomes enormously successful they are no longer one of the two. Dave Mathews falls into that category. At the beginning he was listed in the alternative category.
This is just my opinion.

Okay-I looked all over for directions, how do you box in a quote?? Just put what you want quoted between the quote "tag" by clicking on tha "quote tag" which is at the bottom row, second to right in the "Add Tags" column.

I have written an angry letter of complaint to the head of DeutcheSport for showing hoax footage of the Mighty and Invincible Pittsburg Stillers being beaten 15-6 by some team of Eagles from Philadelphia. No touchdowns for the Stillers - just a couple of poxy field goals. JCV has been very quiet on this board recently. Where is she? JCV, what the hell happened?? Surely there is some mistake with my satellite signal. I thought the Stillers were the best team of all time! Is this what an offense should look like? I needed a crate of Pilsner and an extended play of Wings 'Wild Life' before I could face the world again. As we say in Hamburg -- " Ach du liebe zeit".
