So, pretend you are a producer and close friend of Yoko's in the 1980s. She approaches you in 1985 and gives you full access to her archives of Lennon recordings to come up with a 10-track album of unreleased music for a new John Lennon album...What do you put on it?
Here's mine:
1. Baby Please Don't Go 2. Only You 3. Rock 'n' Roll People 4. God Save Oz 5. Real Love (piano demo)
6. Here We Go Again 7. Angel Baby 8. To Know Her Is To Love Her 9. Since My Baby Left Me 10. Imagine (Take 1)
I wanted to focus on as many studio tracked unreleased tunes as possible, whether they were originals or not. As much as some of side 2 is a little lacking, the Rock'n'Roll sessions outtakes have a great party vibe to them and I just couldn't bring myself to not include 6-9 as they feature collaborations of two of the geniuses of 20th century rock/pop: Spector and Lennon. I love the first take of Imagine from the Lennon Anthology and thought it was the perfect way to close out the record. All the other songs were completely unreleased at the time. Rock 'n' Roll People and God Save Oz in particular sound like they are from the same sessions (though they are not), and Baby Please Don't Go just gets things off to a gripping, snarling start which I love, and the sentiment echoes back in an ironic way with the penultimate track Since My Baby Left Me which is one of my fav Lennon recordings because it's so loose and party like.

I also liked the Spector song that appeared on Lennon Anthology, Be My Baby , also if a good clean recording existed of Muncho Mungo, I would have liked that on there too.

Yeah, Be My Baby is completely fun. I love that one too. If this was 11 tracks, it would definitely be on there.

Menlove Avenue was an interesting release, good but patchy. I really enjoyed the basic Walls And Bridges tracks which were what, all of Side 2.
I bought the vinyl album the night before my second interview at the law firm where I have been since law school so this album has been out a while.

Long Lost John from Imagine sessions (?) That is a great ditty! I like John's voice on that, like he went back 15 years in time. I would have enjoyed that in 1986 as part of Menlove Avenue.

It's not about not liking the album fabfour, it's just a little bit of role playing, as I said, if you were a producer/friend of Yoko's and she asked you to go through John's archives in the early 1980s and come up with 1 album of unreleased material what would you put on it!
