I was just listening to the dakota tapes and was thinking what if julian did a cd called "Lennon sings Lennon" and he would either finish some of Johns demos ,maybe a duet cd,or maybe instead of a duet cd julian just records some of his dads lost songs, all unreleased,do you think this may work? I know that with the death of geoge that leaves out a new Beatles cd with johns lost songs..

I think it's an idea that's been suggested by many, you're not the first. Personally I think it's tacky. I'm sure Julian feels the same. And personally (I don't wish to offend anyone), I'm not actually such a great fan of Julians voice. I don't think he has the same quality and character that John had when he sang. Although his voice is completely different, I think Sean Lennon is by far more talented. There are some good songs left unused/unfinished by John though, so I know where you're coming from. A lot of potential wasted.. can't remember them all off hand, but these come to mind: - Howlin' At The Moon - A Friend Of Dorothy - Whatever Happened To (this was supposedly jammed with the Double Fantasy band) - India There's alledgedly more that have never been bootlegged or put out there on the Lost Lennon Tapes. There were rumours around last year that Yoko was considering doing something with these unheard songs. No idea how true this is though: www.dailyindia.com/show/398662.php

I know that with the death of geoge that leaves out a new Beatles cd with johns lost songs.. Or Julian and Sean doing a joint album of their dad's unfinished works? Lennon left about 20-30 songs not properly recorded or not finished (Now and Then, Mirror Mirror). The only 3 people on the planet that could finish them are McCartney and the two sons of John. If you think that is rubbish to touch these works- listen to the wonderful versions of Grow Old With Me by Mary Chapin Carpenter and Glen Campbell. About a year ago I pitched the idea of "Lennon by McCartney" with mixed reactions. It doesn't have to be "Beatles"- it just would be nice to have these songs in a complete body of work and not just grainy bootlegs of Lennon singing inside of a tin can. Paul and the two young men collaborating with Yoko's blessing could be a nice close out on the John Lennon chapter There is a talented musician on youtube with a stunning Lennon voice that actually made a whole CD of this material, making one further clamour for nice finished product. Then there is the excellent Paul Newell version of Now and Then, which amazingly restores John's original voice.

Problem is quite a few of them need some editing and/or new bridges added etc. That's why I'd favour more towards Paul working on them. I doubt it'd ever happen though. Some more that just occured to me: 'Tennessee' 'Help Me To Help Myself' 'Across The River'

To be honest, I don't think the demos are so great that they deserve a new recording. Perhaps Lennon could have made them into something great had he had the time, but with a few exceptions, they are not great songs. The best have already being done with Real Love, and Grow Old With Me. I do like "Serve Yourself" from the Anthology a lot, but I can't imagine anyone other than John doing it.

I'd rather hear Julian and Sean take a stab at them. Maybe Paul could help the sons by collaborating as a producer and/or arranger? But then again maybe not. Perhaps the sons should take a stab at this without any "Beatles" influence. If John had an opinion in this, my feeling is he would rather his sons finish his works than Paul.

Paul's vocals are certainly not what they used to. Listening to "Best Love" (nice song btw and Paul does a good job on it, as his "aged" voice fits the song well), one can help but feel a little sad that we'll never get those amazing vocals he used to do.

I always wished Julian or Sean would pluck one unreleased demo of their dad's and record and finish the song for one of their albums. Maybe that will happen one day, but I don't expect an entire LP, just maybe a one-off track.

I don't think Paul could do this project justice now that his voice is on the wane......The demos are probably best left alone

Didn't Natalie Cole cover songs by her father Nat King Cole.

I think in a few years, the next time there is a John Lennon tribute/covers album, Sean and Julian should definitely record a song together. And I think it would be great if they listened through their dad's demos and plucked out something unreleased to record. It would be really sweet to have a new song credited: written by John, Julian and Sean Lennon!!!
