So, what's the latest on the Scorcese documentary about George? What's it called and when's it coming out?
I don't know if you all saw his Dylan movie, 'No Direction Home'. It was exciting to watch the first time because of the previously unreleased material from concerts, but the lingering impression of the film was not positive. Hoping this George one will be better.

Supposed to be titled "Living In The Material World" and it is a BBC Documentary Film directed by Scorcese. Last year there was talk it would premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year. That didn't happen. But it is supposed to be released sometime in 2011. Maybe Steve has some more info from his sources.

I cannot wait for this. If the Dylan doc. was anything to go by it'll be a real treat. There's supposedly going to be a soundtrack released as well, hopefully it'll have some of the many thousands of unreleased songs from the Harri vaults.
Olivia mentioned in a recent interview, finding and giving Scorcese cassettes she found of George demos.
I hope that they don't spend too much of the doc. on the fab four.

There was some quote from Scorsese recently where he said the film would definitely be released before the end of 2011. Sounds like its finished, just need to ramp up the marketing and finalize the soundtrack...

The cover of the book. Nice spiritual overtones: Attachments:

I can't wait for the movie and particularly the c.d. This will redirect our attentions to the best aspects of George's music career.
If the soundtrack c.d. here is done anything close to Dylan's soundtrack album for his Scorcese film, then we are in for a real treat!

From the May/June 2011 Beatlefan Magazine;
"Olivia Harrison confirms that, as expected, Scorcese's George Harrison documentary will come out this year. A premiere date should be announced soon, she says."

Poster looks great, but what the hell does Paul Theroux have to do with George? If anyone knows about the 'material world', it's him...
(One gripe -- does everything about George's life have to have a Beatle-era photo? Couldn't they use a 70s' one?)

(One gripe -- does everything about George's life have to have a Beatle-era photo? Couldn't they use a 70s' one?) No kidding. George looked particularly cool from the Cloud 9 era through the Wilburys. There are many great portraits of him from that era as he was an active artist again. It is the same reason George, unlike John, Paul and even freaking Ringo, had an EMI/Capitol greatest hits album that was one half Beatles. When this RS came out I almost cried from sheer joy. What a cool photo!

I do think something from Bangladesh needs to be on the definitive George compilation -- "Here Comes the Sun" would be fine, as its the definitive performance of that song, and it's all about George (and the dude from Badfinger). NO OTHER BEATLE-related SONGS NEED TO APPEAR ON A GEORGE-COMP, especially when they skipped over numerous essential tracks. AND they put a Beatle photo of him on the cover. There is nothing George would have wanted less! People around him at the time say that the early 70s, circa Living in the Material World (the name of the frickin' film!) was George's physical peak. He was 28, 29, around then, which is sort-of the ideal age for guys, and that's also his period of greatest solo success. For example, this would have been better: Or even this:

I'd normally go along with the "why does it have to be a Beatle era photo?" sentiment. But in this case I love the photo of him in the water.
1) I've never actually seen this one before. 2) the spiritual overtones, a drop in the ocean of conciousness, bodies of water etc 3) he's at the age when he started to get into Indian music. It's almost like 'the start of his journey' and 4) he looks eternal, almost etheral in this picture
I wouldn't be suprised if one of these is behind the thinking of Olivias choice of picture.

Publicity; George was first and formost a Beatle. 70's and beyond George was secondary to his career as a Beatle for PR purposes. Beatle references will always sell better than solo references; regardless of anyone's opinions. If George were alive, he would probably be the first one to object to a Beatle picture.

But, the guy had multiple #1 records in the US and sold millions in the 1970s. Even when he wasn't selling, his face was still immediately identifiable to everyone over age 25 in the Western World. I say, let's throw George's memory a bone!

There is nothing George would have wanted less! Along the same line, though I love the Concert for George, I never liked the photo used as the backdrop and for all the released material. Of course he will always be Beatle George, but there had to be amazing photos of him playing guitar after 1969 that would have celebrated George Harrison. Most of the people on the stage that night had little to do with George until he stepped out on his own.

Is there a chance that we haven't heard about a soundtrack CD set for the film because it will be from EMI and not label-connected with the documentary? Just grasping here...

I think I mentioned (or maybe I didn't) that I was told there is more info coming on the project. A soundtrack CD should be part of that.
