During my long commute to work, I was listening to a review of Pirates of the Caribbean, which comes in 3D, and this thought came to me: Should kids' first movie experiences be 3D or 2D?
I know there are a lot of movie aficionados on this board and also people with kids, so I guess I'm wondering if the survival of 2D will hinge on the preponderance of 2D on kids' viewing experiences. I'd like to think that everyone's mind set will be like mine that there are some films that should be seen in 3D and some in 2D, but if you look at the movies kids see today, they are all in 3D. I surmise that as we go through the years, there will be people who will have never seen a 2D movie, for their tastes in films were set way back when they were young.
I'm not a film expert, nor a "lover" of film. I'm just an average movie goer whose tastes and experiences and knowledge go back to Wings and The Battleship Potemkin to Wayne's World and Kick Ass. I know people who just can't get into black and white, but I think the loss of 2D might be far greater.
Do I need to be talked down from the ledge?

However, they refuse to watch B & W movies, which has deprived them of the Three Stooges, Abbott & Costello , Laurel and Hardy, the universal monster movies not to even mention all of the classics. I think Hollywood may be able to convert some of the more recent movies into 3D much in the way Ted Turner colored B & W, which bringss me into another topic.. Turner did that in the 80s. I would think with all of the technology we have today- they could really turn these movies into "true" color now. Let the debates begin-color or BW, 2D or 3D?

Were your kids' first viewing experiences 3D or 2D. I'm just wondering if one's first movies are 3D, 2D would look so, er, average. If my first car was a Mercedes, don't think I could go to a Camry as my next car.

If my first car was a Mercedes, don't think I could go to a Camry as my next car. My kids are mid-teens so it's been almost all 2D. Good. That means in 2045 they will still have a chance to appreciate a look back on a good 2D movie.
