Rolling Stone Magazine has put out rankings on the best at various instruments. I put all the Number 1's together, and the 2's, etc. (I cheated on keyboards and piano since Rolling Stone didn't do a list for them. So, I went to another list.) I won't do all ten, but which band would you want to hear and why? Only one rule: the person listed can ONLY be used in their listed role. For example, Jimi Hendrix is not allowed to sing and John Lennon can't sing or play any instrument in group 3, and Paul can ONLY be the writer in group 5.
Anyone wanna play?

The first group looks fun, but it's an unstable bunch and I strongly suspect they might start killing each other half way through the set. Seriously though, bass and drums of Entwistle and Bonham looks awesome, Franklin singing Dylan to the backing of a thunderous rhythm section would be hugely interesting; weave a bit of excoriating Hendrix guitar into the mix and I think the results would be totally compelling -- or at the very least a decent night out with a few beers! Emerson and Charles are probably surplus to requirements for this band and might have to be relegated to half-time entertainment.

A young Aretha and Jimi Hendrix doing R&B and Soul tracks together with the others? Wow! Dylan would have loved writing for them all. Comments; #3 - Elvis probably would not have sung Lennon compositions; why? Ego. He thought he was better than The Beatles. #5 - John singing Paul's songs? Yea, he did "I Saw Her Standing There" in 1974 with Elton, but a whole concert? Doubt it.

I'll pick #1.
My main reason for the selection is because Dylan is the songwriter and he can compose anything. I would love to see him and Jerry Lee together on stage. What a hoot! And Aretha singing Dylan would be magnificent.
Jimi who?

Being from Logansport, Indiana, I wasn't smart enough to know what sayne wanted and thank goodness I didn't post my initial thought which was to make my own line-up from those five different bands.
I guess my choice is Number 1. It's sad that our guys appeared nowhere in this "first string" team.
Man, Band 3 would be limited to John's solo songs like the horribly anti-climatic "One Day At A Time" or loungy "Intuition." Elvis ain't going to sing that stuff nor "Cold Turkey" although it would be funny to see "Fat" Elvis grunting out the end screams all sweaty and splitting his trousers and giving karate air-kicks to the harrowing drug withdrawal song.
Nope, too much talent in that band to be constrained to just John's solo catalog. What, are they just going to do "Imagine" all night?

It's sad that our guys appeared nowhere in this "first string" team . . . But, spun a different way, no other band has so many entries in the top 5. They had a top 3 bassist; top 2, 3, and 5 songwriter; top 5 drummer; a top 5 singer. They must have been a pretty good band.

LOL! Or "Well Well Well" ! However, I could imagine (no pun intended) Elvis singing"Happy Xmas".

Before this thread goes to die, how about we change the parameters a bit. Let's say the members could do something else as well. For example, in band # 4, Bruce Sprinsteen can sing and play guitar and in band #5, Billy Joel can sing and write. Which band would you now choose?
