The data in part VI of this Government report www.parliament.uk/documents/commons/lib/research/rp99/rp99-111.pdf show a distinct increase from the late 60s to the end of the 20th century (the death penalty was abolished in the late 60s). The perception is that it has got worse in the 21st century especially since the last Government took to building greater social imbalances into the population for political advantage.

Violent crime in the UK has spiralled since we did away with the death penalty. That is an actual fact. And I'm not after votes. I'd be interested to know more about this. Do you have any links or evidence? If you're right, it'd be the first time in history that abolition of the death penalty resulted in an increase in crime. (Of course, the two things could also be co-incidental for other, unrelated reasons.) Back in the mid-60s (when California had the death penalty) Oakland was averaging about 10 murders a year. Today (when rarely does someone get executed in California) Oakland is averaging about 150 murders a year. There are other factors, of course. But I wouldn't rule out the death penalty as one of them. Which I am in favor of. But why I'm talking about that on a Beatles fan page is a mystery.

But why I'm talking about that on a Beatles fan page is a mystery. Lennon started it, getting all polical and stuff. Did anyone notice that California stopped the death penalty right after Charles Manson got convicted and sentenced to the death penalty. I don't know if someone said "If juries are going to convict someone of first degree murder for "mind controlling" someone into committing it, then we have got to take it (the death penalty) off the table.
