I stumbled upon this book while picking on the bones of what was left at my local Borders Bookstore. What a great find. I'm about halfway through it, but the insight into George's music, particularly his solo career--which has been pretty overlooked by the general public--is great. I highly recommend this book for any serious fan of George's music.

This sounds like the book by Simon Leng. If indeed that's the book you're referring to, I totally agree with you. The BEST book analyzing any of the Beatles solo music. And to boot, the author actuallylikes George Harrison's music! This shows throughout the entire book, without the author's admiration degenerating into mere fan-adoration. This Simon Leng interview is also interesting: www.riprense.com/simonlengq&a.htmMcCabe

Great interview with Simon Leng linked there! Enjoyed that a lot (although he mis-used the word "reticent" twice, but so do a lot of people). I'll have to read that book soon.

After the glowing reviews by theman and McCabe, I was pleasantly surprised to find I own it! Sometimes we forget what we accumulate. The cover of my version is this one:

Thats a few different covers...i wonder if anyone bought it twice not realising it's the same book LOL! That's be me! Which cover do you like best? I like the third one down best with the yellow bordering around the print. I like George's rugged look there. Next I like the sketch cover you and I have, fabfour, the first two look like a million other book covers.

Extremely well written book. Well-balanced. Well-informed. Gives you an excellent idea of what George brought to the Beatles and their compositions, as well as a great review of his solo career. Highly recommended.

Panther, I just finished reading it. I think you are going to like it. It is a book that really does justice to George's entire career. And, after finishing it, I'm very excited about the upcoming film on HBO.

Thanks. I'm reading it now. At first, I was like -- Whoa! This writing style is pretty idiosyncratic. But now that I'm used to Leng's style, I'm really liking it.
A similar book is "The Art & Music of John Lennon" by Peter Doggett. That's the only really great John Lennon book I've yet seen.

This Simon Leng interview is also interesting: www.riprense.com/simonlengq&a.htmMcCabe This Thread caused me to pull out this book and read it properly. I have always jumped around as it is organized album by album, then song by song. What an amazing book! If this doesn't fire one up on George's music and his abilities as a guitarist then nothing will. The excitement this book has generated in me is comparable to that excitement Nicholas Schaffner's The Beatles Forever caused me as to The Beatles when I was a newbie. I want to hunt down the Doris Troy album George produced as well as The Splinter album he likewise produced. I am finding the book very remarkable and there seems to be nothing of such quality for John and Paul even though there are many more books on their post-Beatles years. By the way, I thought panther did a Thread where he posted after each day's reading of the book but I couldn't find it.
