Okay, I don't expect anyone to agree with me, and I'm not intending to start a war, but I've posted that about a month ago I saw the Monkees in LA. Last night I saw the Go-Gos. I vote the Go-Go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before the Monkees. Not saying the Monkees don't deserve it, but I've cast my vote.

I love the Go-Go's. I saw them in 1984 at I.U. and then met them all afterwords as I snuck into the I.U. Auditorium through a slow closing back door and also met most of John Mellencamp's then band who were there to watch. I didn't see Mellencamp himself.
It was hilarious as I even acted like security and helped push a clearing in the crowd to help the ladies get on their bus. The couple with me before I slipped in watched from the curb with jaws dropped as I came out of the Auditorium with the Go-Go's! ;D
In fact, one of those two was/is Board Member SlyRose, my friend since high school, who has yet to post here despite sitting right next to me July 31 at Paul McCartney in an amazing coincidence as we did not buy our tickets together. What is the chance of that at a 37,000 plus person concert?
I'd vote Go-Go's for RRHF! They aren't in yet?
sayne was it all five original members?

I saw Ana from the Hollywood Chamber posting about it all day. She was hyped for it. (FYI, great person to follow on Twitter is @wofstargirl. That's Ana and she gives rundowns on all the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremonies.)

So how was the show?. . . . Here was the set in the SF Bay area: Vacation Tonite How Much More Get Up And Go Mad About You (Belinda Carlisle song) Lust To Love Mother's Little Helper (The Rolling Stones cover) Automatic Fading Fast Cool Jerk Cool Places (Jane Wiedlin/Sparks cover) This Town Unforgiven Our Lips Are Sealed Skidmarks On My Heart We Got The Beat Encore: Beatnik Beach Fun With Ropes Head Over Heels I wasn't keeping track, but it's probably the LA set, too. They started off a little shaky, but the Go-Gos (although they usually play well) are more about having a fun time. Man, Gina Shock really is a good drummer. She keeps them solid. I think she and Ringo would be a good pair. It was Belinda Carlisle's birthday and we all sang Happy Birthday to her. It's funny, way back when they started I used to think Kathy Valentine was the ugly one, but today I think she has become to best one. Also, Jane Wiedlin never did anything for me with the pixie look of hers, but I think she is going to be a very attractive mature woman, although recent pictures haven't been doing her justice and her Rasta wig didn't help her. Belinda? Love how she slinks and moves, but she has had work done - especially around the eyes. Hope she doesn't really go overboard like Priscilla Presley or Kenny Rogers. Yes, I know that I haven't written about the music. That's because their set was pretty standard. Everything they played was stuff they usually play, but there are some that they trade out from tour to tour. Fun With Ropes, though, is one I'd never heard before, for it was from their pre-fame years. But, they did the major hits, so that was why we all went. One cool thing is that the girl-to-boy ratio at the concert was really good for us guys. Yes, it was the "original" members - the ones from Beauty and the Beat, which this tour is really about, the 30th anniversary of their first album. I must say, these are 50 year old women rocking legitimately. That is really sexy AND inspirational! (not great audio, but visually closer)

Well, if you're going to vote the Go Gos in, I would also vote the Bangles in. I have always had a teen-like crush on Susanna Hoffs, but it is not just her looks- it is her voice. I get all goose-bumpy like a 13 year old girl at a Justin Beiber concert ;D

If they weren't so "produced" I would put them on equal footing with the Go-Gos. The Real World, Going Back to Liverpool, If She Knew What She Wants, Live are really stellar. Great harmonies. I really dig that Paisley Underground sound! I had the hots for Michael Steele. Too bad she became chair of the Republican Party. ;D ;D ;D

Steel can join Barry Goudreau (of Boston), Joe Perry and Ted Nugent and most of the country music scene with Dennis Miller as MC of a national red state rock tour. Venison burgers, Ann Coulter books and posters of Elizabeth Hasselbeck will be sold at the shows. Meanwhile the national blue state tour will continue with Dixie Chicks and most of the rock and roll music scene with Rosie O'Donnell as MC. Veggie burgers, Al Franken books and posters of Olivia Wilde will be sold at the shows ;D

Well, if you're going to vote the Go Gos in, I would also vote the Bangles in. JOAN JETT (and The Runaways) get in BEFORE the Go-Go's or The Bangles.. or Pat Benatar. Let's hope they get that straight.

But yes I got the other connection. I almost continued the joke with Beck/Glenn Beck, but figured that one would sail over everyone's heads.

Let's hope they get that straight. Yes they go first. It pains me that Joan is not in and Madonna is- that is why the name should be changed to Pop Hall of Fame. Benatar was more "commercial"than Joan but they always played her songs on FM AOR, so she's a legit candidate too. Honestly when they started voting rap and dance artists in, I really lost all interest. I said it before and I'll say it again- this is not "Cooperstown".
