A 5.8 earthquake was felt on the East Coast earlier between Washington, D.C. and New York. I felt my chair moving and my building shaking, immediately went with my mother to a doorway and waited till it past. I hope everyone who experienced it are OK and safe.

I'm on the 12th floor in Newark. The building shook twice, we were evacuated then sent home. Pretty scary- probably chump change to Steve, scousette, sayne and other Californians.

I hope our East Coast friends are okay! I first heard Virginia mentioned as to this and I thought of our long absent friend here, BigK.
It is amazing the places that get earthquakes. The New Madrid Fault line will one day wipe out St. Louis, Louisville, maybe Indianapolis, etc.
Hope all are well out East!

I just found out there's a fault line very close to where I live in my area of East New York City. Just keep us in your thoughts and prayers for safety.

I thought of BigK too, JSD. I think the epicenter is right near where he lives. Stay safe, East Coast folks!

Glad all of you are safe. A 5.9 is nothing to sneeze at here and judging from the news coverage I saw on MSNBC, there were a lot of nervous newscasters. I don't know if anyone noticed, but Colorado also had an over 5.0 quake today that barely got any attention. (5.3 to be exact.) What's amazing about this quake is there was apparently little damage. You don't know how lucky you guys are, especially in the big cities.

The earthquake was felt in northern Illinois, some of the taller buildings swayed a bit and were evacuated. Outside of that, no one was injured and no property damage. It could have been a lot worse. I didn't feel a thing.

JMG! Glad to hear from you and that you're okay. What an experience! I've never felt anything like that before. I was working and wondering why the person with the heavy cart didn't just get past my cube already so I could finish doing what I was doing 'cause this person was in a hurry and the movement was annoying! ;D Then I started to feel woozy and looked behind me to see the lights swinging and the building move! It must have lasted about 40 seconds here. Some people ran outside. I stayed in. If you know anything about the buildings in PPG Place, you would know all the buildings are encased in glass. I figured my chances would be better inside than outside if all that glass shattered! All is well here, though. Some people had their brick chimneys fall, but there was no major damage around the city that I know of. Let's hope this doesn't become a habit on this side of the U.S.! JCV
