What was/is your favorite Beatles track that you heard before it was officially released? (Tracks later released on "Beatles Anthology," "Live at the BBC", etc., can be mentioned.)
I've always loved "How Do You Do It" from the moment I heard it even though they didn't particularly. My choice.

I liked "Hippy Hippy Shake" that a friend gave me on tape. I also liked "Sure To Fall" (the BBC version, not the Decca version with the "Paul Ramon" bridge ) and "Love of the Loved" from Decca (also on the same tape, IIRC). I remember watching "The Beatles Compleat" when Bob Wooler talked about giving Paul the single for "Hippy Hippy Shake" and me saying, "Hey! I heard the Beatles version!" when no one else in the room had (heard their version, that is). Later, the Georgia Satellites covered "Hippy Hippy Shake" for the soundtrack of the movie "Cocktail" and I remember telling people, "Hey - the Beatles covered that!" and once again, no one else knew ( or cared ).

I always loved Shout. I always think I hear John saying I'm Fuckin' Shoutin' now.

"Come and Get It" turned out pretty damned fine for me.
Although I do love a bootleg version of "Let it Be" where George is goofing around singing "...she is sitting on the lavatory"....

I know it's pretty cute with it's Moonlight and Junelight lines but I like I'll Be on My Way a whole lot. Of course Paul's Goodbye is great.

I would pick Come and Get it or acoustic WMGGW, but both are basically "solo" efforts.
So my vote goes to "That Means a Lot" because it has the early 60s UK pop sound rather than the Mersey sound the Beatles were known for. "Not Guilty" is a close second but it dragged a bit. I also like "Love of the Loved"
Honorable mention goes to two covers: "Hippy Hippy Shake" and "Leave My Kitten Alone"

Soldier Of Love blew me away when they did the Beatles At The Beeb broadcasts in the 80s.

I liked Paul's 1967 piano demo of "Fool on the Hll". I also loved the live version of "If I Needed Someone", with the extended (in parts) John/Paul harmonies.

How about Catswalk? I don't know how that didn't end up on the Anthologys.

Lots of differing tastes here, as usual... I don't like their "How Do You Do It?" and I also dislike the song "Come and Get It".
Ones I do like!:
- "That'll Be The Day" -- 1958 - "Twist and Shout" -- 1962 Live, from the Star Club, Hamburg - "Money (That's What I Want) -- 1963 Live, from Sweden - "Memphis, Tennessee" -- July 1963 Live on BBC - "All Things Must Pass" -- Jan. 1969, solo take by George
Of course, those are all officially released now on Anthology or Live at the BBC. Of ones not released, I like the Esher Tapes, of course, and I also like... - "I Threw It All Away" -- Jan. 9th 1969, George's take on the Dylan song (which hadn't even been recorded or released yet by Bob!)

I quite liked Some Other Guy and Clarabella from the BBC album.
From the Anthology, Not Guilty stands out for me. I didn't mind That Means A Lot as well.

You just prompted me to dig out my A-B Road for January 9th. George's vocal is very faded in the mix and we know that Twickenham was not tracked. But it was pretty much a complete take with a few botches. Pretty sure it is just him there on acoustic. Good take- lousy mix.

No mix from Twickers - just ambient sound.

No mix from Twickers - just ambient sound. I used the wrong term. Some nagra tapes actually have a good blend of instruments and vocals.

I love all the weird demos of "Whats the New Mary Jane." That song is such demented great fun. Ranks right up there with the released Revolution #9. It shows that the Beatles were doing Pink Floyd Saucerful of Secrets type stuff well before they were. Of course, I'm not sure how many people are fans of Pink Floyd's Saucerful of Secrets type stuff. When the drums stop, I kind of lose interest.
