Thanks gang, it was a fun day. Of course as a Halloween baby I was sworn to always honor trick or treat so I was home all night handing out the goodies to urchins and their young parents from Generation Meth. Hope all had a good Halloween.

OldFred, I am mortified and ashamed, the gang and I missed your October 11th birthday! Man, I try to start them for the regulars here if someone hasn't beaten me. I will say the week of October 10 to 14 was among my busiest at work with a huge mediation session that Friday the 14th. I was putting out fires all over that week. My wife shares a birthday with John Lennon which is just two days before yours. A very belated happy birthday OldFred and just the other day I watched the YouTube video of you reading my theatrical part and showing me how it is done. You were Richard Burton to my Jim Nabors(Gomer Pyle) in delivery! You wait until next year OldFred, I will have Dolenz, Tork, and Jones serenade you!! If they won't, then I'll get the Logansport Barbershop Quartet as they are almost famous, or infamous. I blame my omission on my wife for making me lavish praise to her on her birthday thus causing me to lose sight of John Lennon's and OldFred's birthdays all at about the same time. Then again, I blame most things that go wrong in my life on my wife!

As I do ever Halloween(my actual birthday), I watch scary movies late at night and this year I pulled out my $9.99 bargain bin dvd's of the original Fright Night, Sleepy Hollow and Bram Stoker's Dracula. I have an unopened Red Dragon dvd, the prequel to Silence Of The Lambs that's next.
What are other good scary movies? Years ago JoeK and BigK gave me good lists but those were on the old Board now closed.
I've learned there was a remake of Fright Night but how can it be good without that scary 1980's background music? ;D

I can remember watching that with friends a long time ago and being, um, not in a condition to drive. The best scary movie ever. Another great movie, which I don't particularly want to see again, is "Texas Chain Saw Massacre." A movie critic I know told me the movie was made so that the scenes were for the viewers to draw conclusions. Very scary, that one.

That scared me in 1979 when I first saw it. My family lived way out in the country, just a couple houses near us and of course there was actually a real haunted township cemetary just around the corner. Lights were always seen glowing in that cemetary. I couldn't sleep that night after watching it. I watch it every time it is on t.v. I...um....keep an eye out for zombies of a viral type.

You can pick that one up very cheaply. There are public domain DVD copies for about $1.

I remember watching it in 1973 (or was it '74?) when it was first released and we saw it the day after it opened, so it hadn't become infamous yet with lines wrapped around movie theatres waiting to get in to see it. We didn't know what the movie was about. Scared the livin' daylights out of me, and I had to sleep with the lights on for weeks and wouldn't touch pea soup, which I really liked back then. That song, Tubular Bells, from the movie, still gives me shivers when I hear it. The sequels to the original were awful however. MERRRRRRIN!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen it but I won't own it: owning it may be inviting demons into one's home.

I guess I missed this thread and the others like it. I should visit the lower portions of the listings more often.
So, John please accept my belated birthday wishes.

I've been a huge horror fan all my life, but never found many horror films truly "scary". THE EXORCIST was the one film that got to me, however - especially in the '70s.

My wife and I watched that again the other day and it freaked us out. The get the baseball bat and shotgun out and put it by the bed scared us! Not that a bat or shotgun would help with that scary demon girl! They would help big-time in a zombie attack.
