This is Lennon at his best. And what is Yoko knitting? www.thisdayinmusic.com/pages/instant_karmaOn this day 26th Jan in 1970, John Lennon wrote, recorded, and mixed his new single, "Instant Karma," all in one day. It ranks as one of the fastest-released songs in pop music history, recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios and arriving in stores only ten days later. The single peaked at No. 3 on the US chart and No. 5 in the UK.

"Instant Karma(We All Shine On)" is a great song, a song I like better than "Imagine"(although I love that too), and one that is still as respected today as the day it was released.
While I am not a big fan of songs being used for commercials, I must say that the 1990's Nike commercial using John's recording was very cool and introduced the song to a generation that never would have heard it otherwise.
When some question John's solo career in terms of greatness or justifying his prompt induction into the RRHoF as a solo artist(a solo career also cut tragically short), one need only look to the songs IK and Imagine to justify such accolades. Those two songs alone would make a RRHoF career. Those songs never fade or go out of style.

It is still a great, hard-hitting, energetic, spontaneous record. One of John's best.

This could have been a great new single for the Beatles to open up 1970 with a monster hit (George is actually on the single). But as it stands it is a true "Plastic Ono Band" song and is one of John's best with a performance video and the live performance in NYC.

I can imagine them(The Beatles) doing this on Top Of The Pops just as the Plastic Ono Band actually did. A huge what if but a nice thought!

. . . And what is Yoko knitting? . . . Oh, in the spirit of Madame De Farge in Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, she was probably plotting more ways to end the Beatles.

The song is great: the haircut illustrates Lennon's worse failing, being cut and auctioned off to fundraise for John's latest radical pet project, the murdering thug Michael X.

A bit of a strange unit at times was Mr Lennon....maybe that is why he wrote lyrics that weren't quite regarded as nursery rhymes.... Still a good haircut though considering the shaggy dog look of the rooftop era....
