The Beatles 'In My Life' was played at Shea Stadium before the stadium closed for good in a very emotional 'Shea Goodbye' ceremony today, September 28th, 2008.

And the Mets made sure that today was the last day for Shea!
As a Beatles fan, I have some sadness in seeing Shea closed. As a Chicago Cubs fan, I hope Shea rots and burns in hell! Talk about being bi-polar on a subject.

As a Mets fan, I can tell you that they indeed do suck.
As a McCartney fan, I can tell you that Billy Joel does indeed suck.
Goodbye Shea, you will be missed.

But you guys have won at least two World Series(that I can remember) in the modern area. Us Cub fans are dying! I don't blame you for being pissed at Billy Joel. Didn't you have tickets for what was to be the last Shea concert only for Joel to add one thus you missed Paul? Where is the new stadium, next to Shea? Is Shea going to be the parking lot?

Is Shea going to be the parking lot? If it's anything like St. Louis, it will be a tremendous crater for several years. Ugly. Depressing. Memories of Busch Stadium since my first game in 1969 soaking in rainwater, piss, trash, and gravel. ...but they say they'll have it ready for shopping or something by the all-star game next summer.

The new stadium, Citifield, is right next to Shea, during the BJ concert I coukd see it right over the left field wall. I heard that they will take down Shea but leave the field as an open park, but I gotta think it'll end up being parking. I'd be depressed about it, but with the price of going to a ball game in NY these days I haven't gone in years.
Yeah, JSD, I was the one scr*wed over by Billy Joel. Me and about 70,000 others. I hope he got a couple of weekends of booze out of the money he apsolutely stole from his fans.

To be fair to Billy, I believe he explained he tried to get the second show scheduled a couple of days earlier, but the Mets game schedule couldn't be changed, so he had no choice but to have it 2 days after the announced 'final' show. He knows a lot of fans were mad about that, but it was out of his hands by that point. What should have been done was that the two shows should have been sold at the same time so those who could go on one day but not the other a least would have had a fair choice. This is not to excuse Billy, but I don't think he's totally to blame.

What he SHOULD have done was offer the Wednesday ticket holders the ability to trade for the Friday concert, at the least. Not that I'm buying that the Mets wouldn't give them an alternate earlier date. Failing that, just don't do the second concert. No artist has ever ripped me off like Billy has. Truth: selling a concert as the Final ever at Shea, and then having a concert after that, is worse than a lie, it is false advertising and should be actionable in court. John, want to take the case?

I almost have to agree. Joel sold the tickets for the first show on the premise that it was the last one. He should have, at the very least, given ticketholders the chance to trade their tickets for the later show, IMO. And I can't believe he didn't expect to do the second show, either.

John, want to take the case? I feel your pain! Didn't Billy give your show a half-ass, laughing apology? It would have been interesting if hundreds or even thousands of fans from your show had filed consumer fraud claims with your State Attorney General's Office. If enough voters complain.... Yup, it is all about money. Old drunk Billy Joel would still be doing "the last Shea Stadium concert" if he could sell out another year's worth!

Talk about being bi-polar on a subject. The Cubs got theirs, though - they lost 3 straight to the Dodgers! Oh well -- maybe in another hundred years! ;D Hiya, JSD - seems like old times, doesn't it?
