I am watching "Living in the Material World" and I still don't get what George's spiritual beliefs were?
He seemed to love his earthly possessions and fast cars, didn't like paying taxes and listened to the words of the Maharishi but didn't fully embrace them.
So was he religious? If so he didn't seem to subscribe to any of the major ones.
Did he simply make up his own belief system and was he just a materialistic guy looking for something more to his life that no religion could really answer for him?

Listen to the lyrics of Brainwashed, the last track on his last album.
My Sweet Lord, Hear Me Lord, Be Here Now, Life Itself...
Does it really matter which religion? He was a theist. He was raised a Catholic. Later, in adulthood, he embraced Hinduism (Hare Krishna).

He didn't become a monk so he did not have to take a vow of poverty. Anyone who follows religious tenants without questioning is not having a religious experience. They are living someone else's experience. So yeah. Pick and choose what you believe.

From all reports he worshipped his little George and found him many burrows to have a run in, including one betrothed to his close friend

George knew there was obviously God, so that was good enough for me.

I've always felt that George Harrison damaged his brain by taking too much LSD. I mean if you got as high as George Harrison got, you'd be seeing yogis of the Himalayas too.
I don't know that he subscribed to any religion, but simply practiced spirituality. He did become very preoccupied with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and also the Self-Realization Fellowship.

According to Olivia he suffered from givetheferretarunitis which she conceded wasn't curable....
I don't think that was caused by LSD......

My understanding is that George was primarily a devotee of Prabhupada. He's the guy who brought the Hare Krishna movement to America in the '60s. I'm big on Hinduism myself -- particularly Vedanta and kundalini yoga. But Prabhupada always seemed like a turn-off to me. He's sort of the fundamentalist Southern Baptist version of Hinduism. An extremely strict and doctrinaire side of Hinduism.
A great book about the whole Hare Krishna movement is "MONKEY ON A STICK: Murder, Madness and the Hare Krishnas." A real expose of the seamier side of that cult.

I'm sure he took bits from all religions - put it this way, I bet he celebrated Christmas...
