I want to keep this moving along so I'll go right to Match 2, which pits SOMETHING NEW (side 1) vs. THE EARLY BEATLES (side 1) (and in answer to a question from the first match, vote for the one you like best!)
SOMETHING NEW (SIDE 1) 1. I'll Cry Instead 2. Things We Said Today 3. Any Time At All 4. When I Get Home 5. Slow Down 6. Matchbox
THE EARLY BEATLES (SIDE 1) 1. Love Me Do 2. Twist And Shout 3. Anna 4. Chains 5. Boys 6. Ask Me Why

THE EARLY BEATLES (SIDE 1) 1. Love Me Do 3. Anna 4. Chains
I could be talked into Twist and Shout but the Something New songs are better.
Something New has my vote.

SOMETHING NEW (SIDE 1)
I'll tell you what though, "Twist And Shout" is so awesome that it almost carried the day for me.
"Matchbox" is the greatest Ringo vocal ever recorded. It is so real. Ringo was awesome on that. Anther reason why we needed Ringo over Pete!

Time for my vote. Two albums with much material that charted higher in the US on other labels. Most of THE EARLY BEATLES had reached the charts on Vee-Jay records INTRODUCING THE BEATLES the previous year and a lot of the material on the ironically titled SOMETHING NEW reached the top of the charts on the HARD DAY'S NIGHT soundtrack on United Artists. This one is a lot closer than I might have expected. Unlike JSD I don't care for "Matchbox"-just really do not like the song. "Boys" is a much more energetic song and my favorite Ringo cover. "When I Get Home" is one of the Fabs weakest originals (that "love her till the cows come home" lyric is awful, while "Chains" is one of my least favorite covers. "Twist And Shout" is great and gets the edge over "Slow Down" (which I do like) as a rocking cover. "Anna" is a great John vocal while "I'll Cry Instead" shows some lyrical depth. At this point, THE EARLY BEATLES has the edge. However, "Any Time At All" is an improvement over "Ask Me Why". "Love Me Do" has that nice harmonica, but "Things We Said Today" is much more sophisticated in every way and one of the group's best album tracks (US-it was a B side in the UK). So my vote goes to SOMETHING NEW but not by much.
SOMETHING NEW now leads 7-1.

Matchbox rocks pretty hard. Listen to the guitar that starts the song. Then the piano that sounds like Elvis' A Big Hunk of Love kicks in. George's solo makes it a classic. If Paul had sung it, lord have mercy.
When he finally got around to do it on Tripping, it didn't sound as good because the band updated it and it lost its coolness.

I'll take SOMETHING NEW; the idea of having "Twist And Shout" in the #2 position doesn't appeal to me. It could have easily closed out that side of TEB. "Things We Said Today" overshadows all on TEB save "Twist And Shout." It's not a runaway, but SOMETHING NEW 1 wins easily.

Looking again at the line-ups, I absolutely love the one-two punch at Tracks 2-3 on SN-1 of "Things We Said Today" and "Any Time At All."
And like Joey observed, who puts "Twist and Shout" as track 2 on a Side 1? Man that should open an album or, better yet as The Fabs themselves did, should close the album!
