Rock-N-Roll Music (the budget reissues). The photo doesn't say rock-N-roll to me at all. It was a budget reissue and LOOKED like a budget reissue. At least Reel Music features some iconic images from some of the Fabs movies (atlhough it is probably next to go for me).

Good response Winston! Herr Vectis must count your vote now! ;D We need more voters with reasons! Let's determine the coolest Beatles' album cover and in the process chide the feeble ones which there are a lot of right now! I like Beatles '65 and Something New. I had access to these two albums when I grew up because my Dad was a seaman and he picked them up in America. Australia mostly went the UK albums with two exceptions. Our With The Beatles cover is terrible. Check it out sometime. My mother told me that one of the Fabs had done some nude photographs. I remember studying the Beatles '65 cover, looking at their faces and trying to determine who had the most devious face. I knew who Macca and Starr were but the other two... it had to be one of them and they did look more devious. Before I started writing this post I sussed out 65 and New and I still think they lok pretty cool. The props and colour tones work a treat in 65 whilst Something New is a bit spacey. In the seventies, as a kid, I thought New looked very modern! I was also a fan of the Capitol rainbow label. These aren't EMI covers obviously but I like 'em.

My vote is for 'Past Masters'. For the compilation that's supposed to serve as the catch-all for the non album tracks, it's blah and generic. There's simplicity with imagination (the white album) and then there's this. I agree with theman. Just an observation re: Rock And Roll Music budget re-issue(s). It's an illustration, not a photo. I'm somewhat surprised that so much was labored over a budget reissue. More work probably went into it than most of the other official Capitol releases. I wonder if it was commissioned by Capitol and kept on hand before its destination.

For me, the first few rounds of this tourney will be a toss up between the uninspired corporate hack-work of the early Capital releases and the cheesy, cringe-inducing dross of the seventies compilations.
Roll on round 2...

I'll start off with the cheesy Rock And Roll Music cover, it's so NOT the Beatles, a poor illustration and those thumbs...aarrgh I hate those thumbs!
Once that's gone we'll get to the UK From Them To You, poor layout of four glum looking Beatles, looks like something out of a 1940's textbook.

I'm also not so fond of the art work on The Beatles Story. It's very flat and conveys that The Beatles came from England. Even in 1964 we all knew that. I don't even believe that album ever needed to exist, it was just a Christmas time stocking stuffer. Deservedly out of print for over 40 years now, may it rest in peace.
