RINGO Side 2 has three songs I like: Step Lightly, Devil Woman, and You & Me (Babe). Oh My My is a bit of a drag, and Six O'Clock is a Macca throwaway, which tells you how poor it is. But 3/5 could be a winning score.
Now for MIND GAMES Side 2. Out The Blue is okay (no it's not, not really, but I like to be positive if I can). The rest is so poor. I can still remember the feeling I had when I first played Mind Games through, on the day I bought the album: this is really mediocre stuff. So that's a score of 0.9/6. (0.9 is all I could bring myself to give Out The Blue.)
Thanks for reading, & I'll now go and vote for Ringo.

Love You and Me Babe, Devil Woman is good Ringo rock and Step Lightly is fun.
Meat City is the only one that does it for me from John's album.
So Ringo gets my vote....

Ringo is over-rated and not Ringo's best imo, that honour goes to Rotogravure.
Oh My My is plastic, Step Lightly and Six'o'clock are throwaway's, Devil Woman has poor singing and a try hard rocker, You and Me Babe is the best song on here, I like that one
Mind Games has top notch song writing and blows Ringo away, imo
All the songs are great, could have used a producer
Intuition is a great pop song abit too peppy for John though Out of the Blue is a great under rated Lennon ballad Only People has some nice bits musically but is blandly produced with that plodding beat I Know I Know another brillian Lennon ballad You Are Here another brilliant Lennon ballad Meat City a blistering rocker to end the album
If you want to find some great under-rated lost gems of Lennon ballads look no further than Mind Games, Lennon's voice is still in fine form

If it had been Side 1 of the RINGO album it might be closer. But Side 2 cannot surpass John's side of MIND GAMES here, for me. John wins this one easily.

Ringo for me too. I'm voting for a decent side from an excellent album from a lesser talented vocalist as opposed to a poor side from an indifferent album from a far more talented vocalist WHO SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER!

MIND GAMES, Side 2 vs. RINGO, Side 2
MIND GAMES, Side 2
1. "Intuition" 7 fluffy pop 2. "Out the Blue" 9 this always reminded me of Sexie Sadie 3. "Only People" 6.5 sounds like Paul trying to be John or John trying to be Paul –not quite sure 4. "I Know (I Know)" 8 soft but nice 5. "You Are Here" 8.5 Definitive soft Lennon 6. "Meat City" 10 The last great original hard rocker from John. Rock and Roll People, Move Over Ms. L don’t cut it.
RINGO, Side 2
1. "Oh My My" (Poncia/Starkey) – 10 well written timely hooky song-imagine Paul’s bass on it-wow. 2. "Step Lightly" (Starkey) – 9 Sounds like a White Album cut 3. "Six O'Clock" (P. McCartney) – 8.5 I like it- never a candidate as a single though. The lost fade out with Paul on vocals should have been included as a reprise. 4. "Devil Woman" (Poncia/Starkey) – 7 Not bad but not great 5. "You and Me (Babe)" (Harrison/Mal Evans) – 9- the Paul/Ringo reprise should have been added to this fade out
The Ringster wins this one.

Agree with all except perhaps for the term "easily". I do like "Devil Woman" and "Six O'Clock" quite a bit. I always thought it was strange that Paul gave away "Six O'Clock" since it is better than much of RED ROSE SPEEDWAY.

Lots of fun and it was great to see Ringo with a hit album.

Two uninspiring, treading-water sides. Mind Games is one of the few Lennon albums that seemed like paint-by-numbers. Still, I listen to a Lennon side any day over almost any Ringo side.

MIND GAMES, Side 2
Although John's production on MG-2 leaves a lot to be desired, and no where more than on "Intuition," there are still first rate songs on this Side. I found that I totally agree with ursamajor's summary of MG-2.
I am a huge fan of "I Know (I Know)" and "You Are Here" and "Meat City" have grown on me greatly through the years. "Out Of The Blue" needed some lyric editing as I never liked the line, "Like a U.F.O. you came to me." Much too 1973 but still not a bad ballad from the Beatles' bad boy.
As mentioned,"Intuition" had the makings of a great song but John needed to lose the cheesy electric keyboard and organ and not be so "peppy" as ursa astutely notes("Hey, hey, hey hey, alright!").
I am not the biggest RINGO album fan on this Board but I recognize its importance to Ringo Starr and to many of my friends here. I sure loved most of the singles off this album("Oh My My"was not one of them) before I was even a Beatles' fan. Time Takes Time has been more relevant and enjoyable to me based on the timing of its release.
On R-2, I really like "Step Lightly," "Six O'Clock"(I have a real soft-spot for this, so gooey!)and kind of "You and Me (Babe)."
I like MG-2 more though.

Man, if I had just a nickel for every time you re-stated your opposition to the "hey hey hey hey, alright" intro, I'd be a rich man. And I still think it's fine, and I like the song as is, optimistic pep and all.

RINGO, Side 2 Easily the best album of Ringo's solo career..... fancy peaking with your first solo effort....... Except that it was his 3rd solo album (Sentimental Journey and Beaucoup Of Blues were first two) But if you mean it as first solo album without some kind of gimmick (Oldies, Country) then I guess you could call it that.

I remember reading (as a new fan in the 1970's) RINGO being called Ringo's first "real" solo album for the reasons coachbk states, the extreme themes of the first two albums, so I see fabfour's point. 1973 was an amazing year chart-wise for the solo Beatles. Paul, George and Ringo had #1 U.S. singles and albums and John was in the Top 10(Billboard 200) with the MG album and Top 20 with the MG single which was good considering John had burned so much good will with the record buying public with STINYC the year before. 1974 saw more success for John, Paul and Ringo but not George so 1973 was a very cool year when all four were still Fab!

There's not a side in this tournament that can beat RINGO 1 on my ballot; there are some that can take out RINGO 2.
MG 2 isn't one of them, though. I like it OK, especially "Intuition," which is my second fave on the album (behind the title track), but it can't muster enough momentum to take out RINGO 2 here.

I still need to get the remastered Mind Games. Maybe I'd change my opinion on the quality of this album/side (but probably NOT).

JcS Dark Horse did get to #4 in the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart but had a very brief chart stay. 1973's LITMW, by contrast, was #1 in U.S. for five glorious weeks, #1 for four weeks in Australia and #2 in the U.K. The album Dark Horse astonishingly did not chart in the U.K. nor did the single of the same name! The DH single was a Top 20 U.S. single. I guess I still don't consider DH a success on any level although it got to #4 briefly on the reputation of ATMP, Bangladesh and LITMW. And yes, BOTR was released the first week of December 1973 but it took off in 1974. It was the best selling album in 1974 in both the U.K. and Australia.

I don't want to repeat myself and I am sticking with my first round judgement. I voted against Ringo side 2 and for Mind Games side 2 in the last round.
Although this maybe Ringo's best album for the 20 years after the Beatles split and is a sort of re-union album I prefer Mind Games. Mainly thanks to the re-mastering on it. John's voice is clearer and the music is less muddy. The 90s CD version of Mind Games is pretty badly mixed/mastered in comparison.
"Out of the Blue" and "I Know..." are great tracks. This is back to "White Album" John in style. As for Ringo I do actually like "Six O'Clock" these days despite many hating it but the rest of the album side does not really stand out as anything special to me.

RINGO, Side 2 Easily the best album of Ringo's solo career..... fancy peaking with your first solo effort....... I disagree with this on 3 counts: About half the artists peak with their first effort. Those are the albums with the most energy and best inventory of songs. This is Ringo's 3rd major release. Why ignore the first two? I don't know that this is Ringo's best solo album. Song-for-song, I like Time Takes Time, Verticle Man and Ringorama just as much. The Ringo album does have the advantage of having 4 ex-Beatles on it.

After much internal debate, I went with Mind Games. I like every song on side 2, more than those on Ringo (DW, SixO'Clock and Step Lightly are pure filler.)
Now someone get the smelliing salts for JSD.

What a great album! Ringo Rama has grown on me a lot( once I got over the limited edition fiasco). ;D
