I like both of these sides. In the case of LONDON TOWN, I think this side is way superior as a whole to Side 2. I like the songs LONDON TOWN, CAFE ON THE LEFT BANK, I'M CARRYING, BACKWARDS TRAVELER and I'VE HAD ENOUGH. (You can keep the others).
As for WALLS AND BRIDGES, I think it's one of Lennon's best efforts. I'd have to say I prefer this side to Paul's.
So I voted for WALLS AND BRIDGES.

These are two of my favorite album sides, so it really comes down to bang for the buck. Paul's side just has more material period. Ya Ya is a throw-away featuring Julian on snare (I think). Beef Jerky shows off his backing musicians, kind of like Harrison did on Dark Horse.
Both contain instrumentals and some of my favorite individual tracks.
Paul again by a hair. Normally these would both be in my final 8, if not 4.

A tough choice. This is the better side of both albums. I have listened to LONDON TOWN a lot more and liked it much more at the time of release than I did WALLS AND BRIDGES when I first heard it. Subsequent years have narrowed the gap. "#9 Dream" is the best song on either side. Next I would go with "I'm Carrying". "I've Had Enough" is the best rocker of either side. "Steel And Glass" is much better than Lennon's other vindictive songs (Sexy Sadie, How Do You Sleep). "Beef Jerky" is fun. "London Town" and "Cafe On The Left Bank make a good opening pair to the album. The first time I heard "Girlfriend" I thought of Michael Jackson or Smokey Robinson so it was no surprise it was covered by the King Of Pop. "Children Children" is one that can be cited by those who call Paul a lightweight. "Backwards Traveller" is the beginning of a potentially great song that blends into the experimental "Cuff Link". "Ya Ya" is more John having fun. "Nobody Loves You" is John feeling sorry for himself. "Surprise Surprise" is average sounding trendy stuff at best. It is close, but I'm going with LONDON TOWN.

Gotta go with London Town-1. Value for money.
I agree that #9 Dream is the best song from either side, though. I heard it on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Wednesday. I used the lyric from the song, "So long ago, was it just a dream" as my Facebook "post of the day". Got a few thumbs up replies.

My first instinct was that this was going to be tough as Side 1 is my favorite Side of LT but upon further review, it is not close at all. Paul starts things off wonderfully with "London Town," "Cafe on the Left Bank" and "I'm Carrying" but things sink very fast. Why in the world did Paul allow the Tolkien-lite "Children, Children" to see the light of day here? This was 1978 man and Punk Rock was looting the palaces of such pretentious garbage. And Carr & Tyler nailed it when they wrote that "I've Had Enough" is a song that Paul thought rocked but doesn't really. John wins here for me as I find that there are five really good songs on W & B-2 with two being Lennon solo classics, "#9 Dream" and my absolute favorite solo Lennon song, "Nobody Loves You (When You're Down and Out)." Even though "Ya Ya" is for fun here, I still love John's raspy, shouted delivery. Julian has something not even Sean has: a musical appearance on his dad's album! And Julian has always been disappointingly "ho hum" about it. I think it was a beautiful gesture by John to his son. Any way, John ends up winning by a landslide for me.

Walls & Dreams. For my money "#9 Dream" was Lennon's last really evocative piece of music.

Great stuff. Would have made a great album these two sides "London Bridges".
Seriously - #9 Dream is John at his most melodic whilst the lyrics are are nonsensical really. As many have said this is the best of both albums. The re-mixed version of W&B is much better and John's voice is clearer and sounds superb. A nice flow to the album side and no real clunker on here. I have really grown to like this album during this tournament.
But London Town is a good, light "sunny day " album and maybeedges it. "London Town" is great and I don't know why it wasn't really a hit in the UK. The rest of the album side is an enjoyable listen in it's entirety. "Backwards traveller" should have been made into a fuller length song but even "Children, Children" was a decent folksy type ditty when I re-listened to it. And "I've Had Enough" is a good rock song to end on.
Walls and Bridges does not deserve to go out and London Town is a great "pop" album.
I shall consult Mr Guiness before casting a vote on this one.

Seriously - #9 Dream is John at his most melodic whilst the lyrics are are nonsensical really. . I think those are great lyrics actually and make perfect sense to me. Course I'm nuts. I think Lennon was writing about his psychedelic experiences, looking back wistfully, and maybe even melanchollally (not sure if thats a word but it should be) on all those trips in the '60s. Its probably the last time Lennon indulged in that Alice-through-the-looking-glass thing that made songs like Lucy in the Sky, Walrus, Strawberry Fields, etc so evocative and mysterious.

But London Town is a good, light "sunny day " album Interesting. For me, I have always thought of LONDON TOWN as being more suited to a cloudy, foggy, gray and muggy day.

And I think it proves we all interpret music based on our own individual experiences. Especially from the first time we hear a track/album. Why do I think "London Town" an album for a sunny day? I think it's mainly because "London Town" and "I've Had Enough" were summer vinyl single releases in the UK in 1978. I was but a young schoolboy at the time and believe that the sun shone everyday on Merseyside that summer (as if ). I remember buying the "With A Little Luck" 45 earlier from a bargain bin (maybe April/May???) . I did not purchase the full CD album until the mid 90s and for some reason the whole album has a summer feel to it to me. Whereas it's follow up "Back to Egg" has a very winter experience to it to me. Everyone to their own though.

You are both right! The front cover is b & w, cold and cloudy while the back of the album cover is color and clearly warmer looking and sunny!

I'm sitting here at around half-past four in the afternoon; it is Saturday.
I'm snacking on a bowl of cherries (a seasonal fruit right now, here in Sydney).
So I'm sitting here at the Abbeyrd forum deciding how my vote will go between these two sides.
Hold on - I'm eating cherries - is that an omen then? ... no, London Town is not the Macca bowl of cherries album. That's the London Town vote gone then.
Johnny gets the vote, then - as he should at this time of the year.

Both great sides and albums.
#9 Dream is a truly outstanding song by John while Paul is being very melodic on LT-2.
So this is a hard choice. LT-2 is an Easter album for me which is not hot and not cold, it's comfortable.
I'm going to vote John only because I don't think I've Had Enough is a good rocker and Children Children is my least favourite from both sides. Nobody Love You is a good song but man is it depressing. So John but only just.

I picked LONDON TOWN 1. I really enjoy the way the album starts--great one/two punch, and "I've Had Enough" is OK as a closer. The quartet in the middle sags quite a bit, but the program as a whole still beats W&B 2. That album gets off to a great start with "#9 Dream," but starts on a tailspin thereafter that it never pulls out of.
