This one, and the previous one with the first side of MCCARTNEY and ROCK `n' ROLL 2 have both given me pause. Had it been side 2 of MC1 in the other match, Paul would win easily; if Side 1 of MC1 was in this match, Harrison would walk away with it handily.
As it is, I'm still scratching my head, and may have to play the sides again to be sure of which I prefer.

LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, Side 1 vs. MCCARTNEY, Side 2
LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, Side 1
"Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" 9.5 "Sue Me, Sue You Blues" 8.5 "The Light That Has Lighted the World" – 5 "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long" 7 "Who Can See It" 7 "Living in the Material World" 8
45.0
MCCARTNEY, Side 2
"Oo You" – 7.5 "Momma Miss America" 6.5 "Teddy Boy" – 8 "Singalong Junk" – 7 "Maybe I'm Amazed" – 10 epic "Kreen-Akrore" – 6
This is a tie.
45
Paul has three instrumentals and a good but not great rocker throwaway (Ooh You- Woman Oh Why is better).
George has some preachiness and some so so ballads.
My vote goes to Paul just because of Maybe I'm Amazed.

LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, Side 1I went with George on this one. There are more songs on this side that I like than on Paul's side. JCV

My vote goes to George. Because of Maybe I'm Amazed. The only track worth a light on side 2 of McCartney, and I don't like it.

I have to go with George's side of LITMW here. Much better quality material than Paul's. (MAYBE I'M AMAZED is a gem, but it cannot compete alone with Hari's side).

Oh man this is a tough one. I like both sides. Excellent adult pop music. I had to go with McCartney because I just love the plucky, home-made spirit of it. And Macca was going through such a hard time, you really sense how much refuge he got from his music. Plus I wore out two copies of that album so I give it points for mileage.

Living In The Material World side 1 vs McCartney side 2?
Ali vs the skinny kid next door?
No contest. Mind you, you have to listen with brain engaged. Living In The Material World is an album for thinkers, as well as listeners.
McCartney is an album to hum to while painting a wall. Suburban pap.

Although I do have a wall to paint so maybe I will give McCartney a re-spin. George's album is one to listen to and then listen a few more times. Despite it's religious overtones I am fond of this album. As for McCartney "Maybe I'm Amazed" is Paul still in Let it Be mode and a fine Macca track. There is nothing else to hear here of any worth. Even Beatles reject track "Teddy Boy" is somewhat irksome. Now for a beer and a late night watching our boys play yours at cricket McCabe. Ashes to Ashes , funk to funky.........

Now for a beer and a late night watching our boys play yours at cricket McCabe. Ashes to Ashes , funk to funky.........It's 8.30 am here, Stavros, just a couple of hours before the start of the second Test. Can Australia take 20 Pommie wickets? Can England take 20 Aus wickets? I tell you, Australia has been King of Cricket for so long that it's hard to accept that for a couple of years we have been on the slide. Now we are mediocre. If you Poms cannot beat us in this series, you should hang your head in shame. But it's the Ashes, and it matters. McCabe

Only an Englishman and an Australian can truly understand our intense sporting rivalries. Although I have seen far too many Pom teams leave these shores with high hopes and then get pummelled into submission. A draw at the Gabba was a good result. But this series has a long way to go and so I take nothing for granted. Whilst we have the momentum I have seen far too many false dawns.

Living In The Material World is an album for thinkers, as well as listeners. And - at various times - believers. ;D I have to commend you... this is very funny. And apt, as well.

Living In The Material World is an album for thinkers, as well as listeners. And - at various times - believers. In my view, you do not need to believe to appreciate the song. As you know, I am not a "believer" in any form of god or spirit or life force or their ilk. Yet, I really do like and admire Hari's music. Further, I wonder if George would say that his albums are sometimes for UNbelievers as well ... hmm ;D I have to commend you... this is very funny. And apt, as well. Well, thanks. McCabe

LITMW S1
George's mini ATMP triumphs over Paul's odds and ends.

LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, Side 1
Add me to those who prefer the mature musical musings of George's LITMW. There is not a bad song on LITMW-1 with at least four great songs: "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)," "Sue Me, Sue You Blues," "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long," and "Living in the Material World." The remaining two are very moving and thought-provoking.
MCCARTNEY, Side 2 is a wonderful part of a whole album but standing alone, I can see why many are wary of it. "Maybe I'm Amazed" is obviously great but let's not forget "Kreen-Akrore," where Paul explores complex African rhythms.

I hate this matchup coming in the first round. Each of these sides would have beaten about half of the winners I've chosen in other matches. I've got to go with LITMW because of the presence of 3 instrumentals on MCCARTNEY. That's too many. I really like "Momma Miss America". Someone described it as a great soundtrack for a surfing documentary, which sounds like an apt description to me. But "Singalong Junk" is totally pointless and "Kreen Akrore" is a bore-I skip it most of the time. "Maybe I'm Amazed" is a classic. "Oo You is a fun improvised rocker and I've always had a soft spot for "Teddy Boy". As to LITMW, "Give Me Love" is a classic in the same line as "Maybe I'm Amazed". "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long" is better than anything else on McCartney as is the title track (though it goes on a little long-a common Harrison problem). The others are all competent quality material. So George takes it over Paul here.

LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD, Side 1
I gained a new appreciation of this LP when it was re-released a few years ago. Goodness, what wonderful music from Hari. "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)" is of course my favorite Harrisong, and "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long" is magnificent.
A true gem.

I'll leave it to McCabe to talk about The Ashes.... The Aussies are looking more and more like yesterday's heroes with every days play....... I have just returned from a car trip where I have been listening for several hours on radio to the hapless Australians battering their heads against the wall of the English batsmen ... The only ray of sunshine is that perhaps the Poms can't take 20 wickets, either. McCabe
