BAND ON THE RUN, Side 2 vs. EXTRA TEXTURE, Side 2
1. "Mamunia" 4:50 2. "No Words" 2:33 3. "Helen Wheels" 3:34 4. "Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me)" 5:50 5. "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" 5:27
EXTRA TEXTURE, Side 2
1. "A Bit More of You" – 0:45 2. "Can't Stop Thinking About You" – 4:30 3. "Tired Of Midnight Blue" – 4:51 4. "Grey Cloudy Lies" – 3:41 5. "His Name Is Legs (Ladies And Gentlemen)" – 5:46
Yes, I know "Helen Wheels" wasn't on the UK issue of this album--but it was on the release in every other country. Since the bulk of the world knows it with "Helen Wheels," it's in the line-up. If you choose to vote based on the UK edition, so be it...

MyFave Fab is George Harrison. But I'm not giving my vote for Texture Two here. I find all of side 2 pretty hard to listen to, all the way through, in one hit. Its only redeeming feature for me is the tribute to Legs Larry Smith. I like that song a lot: very, very typical George, I think. But I can't hack the rest. Now I'm not particularly enamoured of BOTR - side 1 or side 2. However, Helen Wheels belongs to that little group of songs on singles where Paul does some tasty rock n roll: well, tasty-ish. You know, Hi Hi Hi, Girls School, Junior's Farm, etc - but not two many "cetera", sadly. [Remember, Helen Wheels first appeared on a single.]And 1985 is a rolling production that I like. So, Macca d Hari, 2-1. RTP will be pleased McCabe

I voted for BAND ON THE RUN. I only really like HELEN WHEELS and 1985 from this side, but they're enough (and especially 1985, which is EXCELLENT).
As for EXTRA TEXTURE SIDE 2, it's garbage, IMO. One of the worst and most drearily uninteresting sides of music any of the Fabs ever recorded. The only 3 songs I can tolerate from ET are on Side 1.

With the exuberant rocker "Helen Wheels", BOTR wins easily. Without "Helen Wheels" BOTR still wins. "1985" is excellent. "Picasso.." is a very creative piece of work. "Mamunia" is a nice piece of acoustic pop. Only "No Words" is average. Average is a perfect word to describe this side of ET.

I think "average" is being kind to ET--either side, but especially the second one. Like McCabe, I can enjoy to a point "His Name Is Legs" (and then it becomes a matter of tolerance), but that's it for the second side. Frankly, I don't listen to music to tolerate it, I want to either enjoy it or be challeged by it (and the best does both). I do agree with Coach that "No Words" is splendid; I've read some opine that it was a nod to George's style, a song Harrison could have done well. I think that would be the one song on this album that Harrison could have covered well; I can't hear GH doing "Jet" or "Mrs. Vandebilt," for instance. I think "Picasso" is the weakest of these tracks, and even it is OK. JcS

This was hard just because "A Bit More Of You" is a classic! it is perfect at 45 seconds while "You" on Side 1 is much too long.
Yet I'll go with BOTR-2 because "Helen Wheels" and "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" are good rockers although everything else on this Side is crap.
George doesn't rock whatsoever on ET-2.

This is easy for me. I do find George's albums take a bit more work and after 5 or 6 listens you suddenly get it. But BOTR is a particular favourite. And "Nineteen Hundred & Eighty Five" is a great piece of work.

"1985" was always one of my favorite numbers. Thats a wicked little track that goes to a lot of different places.

ET Side 2 is dull. I don't like any of it... well, I shouldn't say that. What I should say is that to me they are completely forgettable.
BOTR 2 ... No Words reminds me of George for some reason. Not bad. Helen Wheels. Fun. Has Macca done this live? 1985... Love it.... Very exciting. It's only flaw IMO are the whoas where it all slows down before kicking back in....
Sorry George.

JcS Side 1 of ET has the great You and the great This Guitar and The Answers At The End and World of Stone which whilst hardly Top o' The Pops material are pretty bloody good. IMO he stresses!

Helen Wheels' guitar intro is one very underrated riff.
