ALL THINGS MUST PASS, Side 3
This George album puts Ringo way out of it's depth.......
It's not the pound that's sinking...it's Ringo side 2...

Had the random nature of what I did to pair up this round put Side 1 of RINGO here, my vote would be different, but ATMP 3 is just too strong for the lesser side of Starr's album.

JcS Sorry I probably should already know this. Is your method for pairing up sides completely random? First two rounds, yes. This round, I took the albums that got the most votes the first two rounds (RAM 1 and ATMP 3) and paired them with those that got the least (GH 1 and RINGO 2), liked what I saw, and did the rest of the set in that fashion. I had to make a couple of moves to keep George from facing himself, and I think both sides of BOTR were against both sides of POB, so I jiggled it a little. What I'm trying to do is eliminate my own prejudices--I'd give RINGO 1 and GH 1 what I thought were the easiest pairings if I were trying to stack the deck--and also give us some tough choices early on. Yes, something like DF maybe shouldn't have seen BOTR in the first round, and wouldn't have if it was being "seeded"--but it would have to see it eventually, so I just "let it be." JcS

An easy win for ATMP side 3. My guess is this will be the easiest choice of the first round. ATMP side 3 is one of my favorite sides. I really like every song. Good variety, something not always true of Harrison. The RINGO side is an enjoyable listen, but simply out of it's league next to George's powerhouse side.

No bigger George Harrison fan than I, and certainly All Things 3 will get my vote: a monster side if ever there was one.
But ...
As this will be farewell to Ringo 2, I would like to say that though the side contains some ordinary stuff (Oh My My, Six O'Clock), it also contains three very good songs: Step Lightly, Devil Woman and You & Me (Babe). The first two have Ringo the writer or co-writer, and the last is by George Harrison/Mal Evans. I think all three songs are classic Ringo: one of the reasons for the success of the album is that so much of it was typical of Ringo Starr.
So thanks Ringo 2. You were never going to win, but you got a long way. Good ol' Ring.

ALL THINGS MUST PASS, Side 3
"Beware of Darkness" sure gets ATMP-3 off to a great start. I wish George always sounded like this. "Apple Scruffs" is so refreshing as relief from the more serious songs and it is nice for the usually dour Hari to recognize some fans. I love it and George's own backing vocals are great on it. "Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)" is another winner and I've come to like it more and more as I get older.
"All Things Must Pass" is majestic, a beautiful song that any artist who has ever lived or who has yet to be born would be proud to have written. John and Paul were bozos for not ensuring that this made the line-up of a Beatles album. Paul should have had the grace and good sense to withdraw "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" from consideration from AR so ATMP could have a spot. Both John and Paul should have insisted George give it to The Beatles and those two egomaniacs should have worked on it with all of their hearts. They didn't, The Beatles' loss.
"Awaiting On You All" is not a fave of mine at all but the other songs more than make up for it.
Ringo-2 has some good tracks and my favorites are "Step Lightly" (I could imagine this one on the White Album"), "Six O'Clock" and "You And Me(Babe)." I have never cared for "Oh My My" and "Devil Woman" seems like forced rock to me.
I want to comment on "Six O'Clock" as Ringo-2 is about to depart. I think 6O'C is very poignant, well sung by Ringo and yes, I love how lush it is. I think it works much better than Ringo singing John's "Goodnight" to close the White Album. Speaking for myself, I can relate to the song in watching my wife as she sleeps at night and knowing I've let her down or hurt her many too times. Paul's song is beautiful, Ringo sings it like he means it(that is rare for Ringo) and it is something most of us can relate to.
I just think "Six O'Clock" is a better, more real-life song than it is ever given credit for. I would have loved to have heard Paul sing it too in a finished recording with all the strings and such.

JSD,
I am also a big fan of "Six O'Clock". My favorite on this side of the album for sure and it would have fit in well for Paul on RED ROSE SPEEDWAY.

Ringo-2I did not take this vote lightly. I quickly looked at the songs on each side and decided that I just plain "like" Ringo-2 better than ATMP-3. Why? Here's why.... Beware of Darkness vs. Oh My My--I'll take the light over darkness anyday. Apple Scruffs vs. Step Lightly--close match up here, but Ringo's simple and unpretentious vocal stylings wins over one of George's quirkiest songs. Let it Roll vs. Six O'Clock--underated Paul +Ringo tune is much more catchy and memorable than the lower key, Sir Frankie Crisp. Awating on You All vs. Devil Woman--I love both songs, but I'll take Ringo rockin' over the Wall of Sound on AOYA. A great song to sing in church, though, if you cut out the Pope part. All Things Must Past vs. You and Me (Babe)--OK, ATMP wins this one, especially since I've told my wife that I want it played at my funeral, along with "The End of the End". Hmmm, come to think of it, You and Me, Babe is probably not a bad way to exit this world .

ATMP-3 This was a no brainer for me. Superb album side by George vs gimmick album by Ringo BUT had it been up against Rotogravure ... now there's a contest !!

ATMP, side 3
Now, if it was going against Ringo side 1, that's a different story...
