Double shot Survivor for R#1, i.e. two songs *Only a Northern song*. and *All Together Now* both got voted off with 4 votes each......... There was a total of 15 voters that voted on the poll and replyed. (and not 19?) But the others 4 voters, who voted only on the poll, and not replyed, their vote won't count (OldFred, RTP, Joseph McCabe, maybe forgot?) Luckily with everyone, including the mysterious voters, both songs still got voted off (5 votes each) So can everyone make sure you reply to me at least the song title your voting off....... Anyway, who will go next in Round 2........... ;D Video Clip Of The Day
IT'S ALL TO MUCH - THE BEATLESThis song, said composer George Harrison, was "written in a childlike manner from realisations that appeared during and after some LSD experiences and which were later confirmed in meditation." It was also a wonderfully inventive piece of psychedelia, a spirit-of-'67 freak-out that won fresh acclaim from a later wave of acid-rock adventurers in the late Seventies and early Nineties. Discordant, off-beat and effortlessly brilliant, the song was (alongside 'Taxman') Harrison's finest piece of Western rock music to date. Sadly, it was edited before release, losing one verse in its reduction from eight minutes to six.

"Love You To" Not a bad song, but the weakest of what's left. The weakest of George's Indian style songs as well.

I may change my mind every round. This time, I'm going for Yellow Submarine. I think the song/recording is a work of genius (serious, I do), but I'm looking at Ringo's vocal as the criterion for my selection in this round of voting, and this round alone. It absolutely suits the song perfectly, but the singing on all the other tracks is better.

'Yellow submarine' - as per Round 1. A great song that has become stale with age. As soon as I hear Ringo yodelling the first line I have the instinctive urge to hit the skip button. I shouldn't, and it's a pity my life has come to this, but there 'tis. All those swooshing noises and that goofy, but inspired singalonga chorus just mildly irritates nowadays. Sorry, Ritchie.

When I'm 64
Same reason I voted for it last time: just not essential to the film or YSS in my opinion.
I am surprised that two songs from the original YS album, Side 1, got nuked.

I am, too, but that could be due to the (lack of) quality of the songs the Beatles gave to the film project. Well, I'm also surprised that "Love You To" didn't bite the big one the first time... JcS

But the others 4 voters, who voted only on the poll, and not replyed, their vote won't count (OldFred, RTP, Joseph McCabe, maybe forgot?) Just for the record - I did not vote. If I had, I would've commented. I hate it when people vote without commenting. Listen to my mantra: the discussions are the point! Why am I not voting? I don't like "tournaments" much in the first place, and while Self's solo sides tourney is happening, I'll give this new one a miss. McCabe

Personally I prefer these mixes as they sound much better. I do think modern technology has and still can improve the Beatles and solo Beatles albums. I would be interested in your thoughts.

I think some of the remixes are excellent (for example Love You To, Rigby, Bulldog, Rich Man), some not quite as successful - though I'd say none is mediocre ... As an album, I don't think it quite works: here's a couple of reason why-- (1) several songs on this album were barely in the film (for example Think For Yourself and Love You To); having their full versions here gives a wrong or misleading feel to what the film was about. (2) an opportunity was missed to present the long version of It's all too much, with the extra verse (Nice to have the time to take this opportunity etc) and the longer ending. This was (in my view) essential as the film version of the song (though very short) has this extra verse! There are other things that slightly bug me, but that'll do for today's whinge! I certainly don't see the album as part of the canonical Beatles. McCabe

He ruined Baby You're a Rich Man and Its All Too Much among others by bringing the bass level to an almost dog whistle level. Take that Paul.

Not essential to the film? That sequence with time going backward and forward is one of the best in the film. The kids always asked to see that again. You have to get past your dislike of this song to at least admit that sequence was a winner.

THINK FOR YOURSELFas I like it least of what's left. Also, it's barely in the film (as is Love You To, but I like Love You To better. So there! )

WHEN I'M 64 is easily one of the best moments in the film for me. Loads of fun, and especially the way they count off the numbers in various creative styles. The song too is also great.

I LOVE the 1999 mix of the YELLOW SUBMARINE album. And while some of the songs there were not really used to any big extent in the film itself, at least we have them in this wonderful audio quality. RTP - do I detect yet AGAIN that you are somehow making a poor victim out of Paul here, by your "take that Paul" comment? Jeez...
