From the YS - Film

The minor furore over the meaning of 'Friends' had nothing on the frenzied response to this piece of whimsy from the pen of John Lennon. "I was consciously writing poetry," he admitted, shifting blame for the line about "newspaper taxis" to his nominal co-writer. But the Alice In Wonderland style imagery, supposedly inspired by a drawing John's son Julian had brought home from nursery school, was widely believed to be a description of an acid trip. As soon as someone noticed the initials of the song's title (LSD), that seemed to clinch the story - except that Lennon continued to deny it until his dying day. Having owned up to so much else down the years, there was no reason for him to lie - especially over a song which he always felt was "so badly recorded".
OrHey Bulldog
Recorded Version
"I went to see The Beatles' recording, and I said to John, 'Why do you always use that beat all the time, the same beat, why don't you do something more complex?' " Yoko Ono's question mightn't have been the most tactful way of greeting her first sight of her husband-to-be at work. On this occasion, in fact, simplicity was bliss. Gathered in the studio to shoot a promo film for the 'Lady Madonna' single, The Beatles made use of the opportunity to complete their obligations to the film company. Like 'I Am The Walrus', 'Hey Bulldog' defied detailed lyrical analysis, but its wonderfully chaotic production and raw Lennon vocal made it a minor classic. The Beatles enjoyed it, too, as a listen to the fade-out makes clear.

Lucy off -- Bulldog to win. Bulldog isn't necessarily better than Lucy, it's just that Lucy belongs on 'Pepper', Bulldog is a great rockin' track, so it just seems appropriate that it takes the honours. In many ways 'Yellow submarine' is a strange album in a Survivor sense, because of all the Beatles albums it is the only one (apart from, and to a lesser extent, MMT) which carries this additonal notion of 'appropriateness' i.e. the inclusion of tracks that were 'flown in' just to make up the numbers set against original 'YS-dedicated' tracks. Even though 'dedicated' is a slight misnomer, because most of these songs were just left-overs and never written for YS per se, to some extent a slight bias has to go to this group of songs. Hence 'Bulldog' to win'.

Hey Bulldog....should be gone........BUT............ probably the only time a turkey will win.... Thanks for your time and effort Rocko....good to see you back participating...... I like "Hey Bulldog" because it rocks yet still has one foot in the Pepper era that came right before it: the boys still enjoyed making music together! And yes a hearty thank you to our friend Rocko for running this Survivor and in general keeping the spirit of 1976 alive when Paul McCartney & Wings ruled the Pop World!
