Follow Me: This one really grew on me. Friends To Go: Quirky romp that does sound like George. From A Lover To A Friend: A tearjerker. Heather: Perfectly captures new love; couldn't last. Hope Of Deliverance: Uplifting, love the strumming guitars. How Kind Of You:Knew Paul had classic album hearing this. I Do:A forgotten gem from DR. Little Willow: Deeply moving.

Where's "I Want You To Fly"

Where's "I Want You To Fly" It, ahem, "flew under the radar." Simple answer is that when I drew this up, I didn't know I could go up to 35 per group, and I had to toss some out to cull it down to 100. When I figured out I could add some, I remembered some of the ones I'd left out, but forgot this one--and probably a few others. JcS

Just don't make the same mistake with "Flying To My Home" when you do the 80s. ;-) Maybe Paul should just do a concept album about flying (?). Thrown in some Blackbirds, Bluebirds, Wrens, Jets, etc., and you'd wind up with a pretty good collection of his stuff!

Of all the songs in this "competition", the ONLY one I listen to regularly is I'm Partial To Your Abracadabra. I have it on a home-made Macca compilation CD, and it's the ONLY one post- Flowers In The Dirt on this CD.
I can't quite put my finger on why I like it: perhaps the way it's sung - strong, confident, unfussy. Perhaps it's the band, who rock along well. Whatever, it's a gem.
The song is from the Ian Dury tribute album. Ian Dury (of him and the Blockheads fame) died in 2000. Hunt the album out: it's good, as it's in the Dury style. Macca was given the honor of doing Abracadabra: and he rose to the occasion.

I struggled to come up with even 6 from this group. Here they are: Great Day (short, but a nice album ender) Heather (nice instrumental, despite its unworthy muse) Hope of Deliverance (which nearly didn't make the cut) How Kind of You (one of the best tunes on C&CITB, I think) Jenny Wren (my fave off C&CITB) Little Willow (more poignant now that we know it was about Maureen) NP: Vaughan Brothers, "Telephone Song," The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan

I had trouble culling this to 8:
Follow Me This is a nice moment on an album full of them. Friends To Go Ditto. Get Out Of My Way Nice rocker in the second half of OTG Great Day Slight but effective closer to FLAMING PIE Honey Hush I like this song, and Paul did it well Hope Of Deliverance A good single, it deserved more attention in 1993 I'm Partial To Your Abracadabra Good cover of a song I didn't previously know by Ian Dury. Jenny Wren Blackbird, redux? Maybe so, but still a good one.
