My vote -- 1 (Crap).
A real snoozer for me, one of George's most limp recordings.

Have to agree. 1 (crap). I really only like a solitary song from Extra Texture and that is the predictable one, You.

Well Joe, I was going to listen to it, but Joe doesn't recommend it. I have the cd and don't remember the song but overall, the album doesn't rate high. I think I'll wait around and see if other people think it's worth a re-listen.
Wonder what Joe thinks? Maybe he'll post.

Good song by George, a heartfelt ballad that starts off slowly but is quite good once it develops.... I give it a 4
Here are the lyrics...
Wise man, you wont be To follow the like of me In this world made of stone Such a long way to go
We may disagree We all have the right to be In this world made of stone Such a long way to go Such a long, long way from home
And we may disagree We all have the right to be In this world made out of stone Its such a long, long way to go
The wiser you may be The harder it can be to see In this world made of stone Such a long, long way to go Such a long way from home
In this world made of stone Such a long, long way to go And such a long way from om

I give it a 3 - I like it. It has a slow jazzy -soul feel to it like much of the album.
It starts off slow but then turns out nice.

Sorry this is not good. When the arrangement tries to help it come to life its killed off again with George's lifeless vocal. Its just not a good tune and it is made worse by the generally turgid arrangement. The piano addition seems like an afterthought to make it more interesting, but that fails also.
There are much better songs on Extra Texture. You is ok but the Answer's At the End is much better. At least it has some drama and builds to some peaks and has a nice arrangement. Grey Cloudy Lies is good too. This one doesn't grab me at any point. This type of song is the reason George didn't excell in the middle seventies. Nothing on ATMP is this sleep inducing. I give it a 1.

At this sitting I must go with "2" which is "Average." It will only increase with me upon further listening. It may be a tad long, a problem George had on this album.

I give it a 2. Nice piano opening. Good lyrics. Kind of a boring lifeless tune. I agree with JSD that it suffers from being too long (and that songs going on too long is a big problem with many of George's songs)

This is pretty dull. The instruments dominate the track more than George's vocal. It seems to me that George wrote the chord progression and never really managed to work a good melody into the song.
"Living in the Material World" has just started on BBC4 in the UK as I write this and "All Things Must Pass" is playing over a video of WWII Britain. "World of Stone" gets nowhere near this classic !

Funny how a song by George you guys regard as bad sounds pretty good to me. It has to be really bad for me to dump on George. I'll give it a 3.

Lyrically, average at best. But I like the piano and the choir ending (even if it goes on a bit too long). George's vocal always seemed "heartfelt" to me (and, it's certainly better than any of his Dark Hoarse stylings.) While I'd like to give it one of those half grades I think I'd be cheating Joe's rating system, so I'll stick with a 2.
