"Your Love Is Forever" -- George Harrison, GEORGE HARRISON (1979) 4. Love it. I remember seeing this LP on the shelves having NO idea he was even recording a new album. This is pretty much tied with ATMP personally as a favorite album. One of my first real first generation-buy brand new solo LPs along with London Town. This was one of the songs that really had an ATMP vibe.

4 Everything Mike V said about this song fits perfectly with my experience. I really like the GEORGE HARRISON album and "Your Love Is Forever" is my favorite song on it. Very nice guitar.
I have a nice story about this album. I had a dream that George Harrison released a new album called THE NOSE KNOWS and the album cover was a closeup of George's nose. I had no idea George was releasing a new album, but no more than a week or two later I saw this album in the record store. Not quite just his nose, but his whole face!

Holy cow, I had the same experience with George Harrison as MikeV and CoachBK! I lived in Merrillville, Indiana and within walking distance was a record store called Rock Steady that was owned by a young guy really into music. He also had a head shop in the back but I never looked at that stuff. On one of my twice a week visits, I came across in the new release section George's album named after himself with a great cover shot and I had to run home to get money to buy it! I'd come over without money not knowing there was a new ex-Beatle album! My dad even let me drive his car back and I drove home much too fast but I had to get to this album. I was not disappointed at all and loved it from first listen. I liked it even better than 33 1/3. The beauty of GH is that it was positively received by the critics but with very little excitement or comment. It was just, "it is his best since ATMP but otherwise out of tune with the times." Remember, by 1979 ATMP was out of favor with the music scene. Yet GH sounds pretty damn fresh to this very day. By keeping to a classic sound, George made music immune to fads and flavors of the month. Your Love Is Forever" is a masterwork. It is the best example of a George Harrison love song that is really about God but can pass as a love song to a human partner to the casual listener. The guitar intro never fails to catch my attention and inspire me. George was the "Quiet Beatle" in many respects and he wrote and recorded amazing songs like this with zero fanfare. I dare say this is a better song than anything Paul wrote from 1975 through 1980. Yet very few in the Rock World heard this song. That didn't bother George it seems. If you wanted to embrace his music it was there for you to do so but if not, he would carry on at his own pace and upon his own terms as to the music he'd make. Other ex-Beatles were looking for trends by this time. I give it a 4 for Excellent and I go higher if we could. Great choice Joe as this is a beautiful choice for a sunny, warm Sunday!

On my Zune, I'm glad you asked, I have this song in the top Pop playlist. I don't have it in any of my Rock playlists. It's a good solid rock song, but pretty sedate.
That's pretty much the same for the whole album. It never picks up any steam. I still like it, but it could had been better.
I'll give it a 3.

He also had a head shop in the back but I never looked at that stuff. That's funny. I picked up a ton of my Beatles (and early solo Beatles) albums at a used record store that was a front for a head shop. Great prices! I remember getting ALL THINGS MUST PASS for $3.99 (and the records were in perfect condition too). I was so naive I had no idea when I first went there what the store really was. The clerk would always ask, "Can I get you anything else?" I'd give them a puzzled look and say "nope". Even if I had known what it was I wouldn't have partaken in any of the non musical purchases. One advantage of having very little money was that, even if I wanted to (which I didn't) I wasn't going to waste any of my cash on drugs. I spent it all on albums and pinball (well OK pinball was a waste, but at least it didn't make me wasted-LOL)

I wasn't even aware of this track until the re-release of George's albums after he passed away.
I can't place hearing any tracks from it on radio in 1979 and that is probably just as well. It was just so far off the UK music scene of the time. Post punk pop, new wave, disco, ska and synth rock all rubbed shoulders in the charts. But this album barely tickled the lower reaches of the UK Top 40 at the time.
The "George Harrison" album was released in February '79 but has that warm feel of a hazy 70s summer day, starting late in the afternoon and slipping into the twilight of a warm August evening.
"Your Love is Forever" is one of the peaks of this record. It is as good as "Something" and is one of George's greatest hidden tracks. The focus is on the guitar on George's vocal in the production and suits it perfectly.
I give this track a wholehearted 4 for totally personal reasons. I would have given this track at least a 3 just a few weeks ago. But at this point in time it has a lot more meaning and has given me a little more peace and comfort.
Thanks for reminding me about it Joe. I am going to give the whole album another run through on the journey to work tomorrow.

I thought it was amazing from the first time I heard it. The guitar intro really surprised me it is so good , very exquisite and melodic.
This song reminds me of beautiful sunny days, especially summer sunny days, on board a boat and then watching the sun set.
For some reason it also reminds me of great childhood times as well.
It's a 4 !!!

I've heard this song many times in the concept of the album, but never singled out like this. Wow, how gorgeous. And yeah, count me in as a lover of this album.
4+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++!

"Blow Away" was a good size hit in the US (top 20 I would guess)

That's what I'm talking about. George, where were you for most of 8 years? This song surpassed anything on LITMW (save Give Me Love), Dark Horse, Extra Texture and 33 1/3 (save Beautiful Girl and Crackerbox Palace). This is George on his way to a Renaissance or renewal. He dropped all the preachiness and heavyhandedness and came back to Here Comes the Sun and ATMP. I have to give the boy a 4 on this.

Like rtp keeps pointing out, the album can color your opinion of a song. 33 1/3 was a lot better album because some of the songs kicked ass.

The Lyrics for......... Your Love Is Forever
Sublime in the summertime, warm and lazy . . . These are perfect days like heavens about here, But unlike summer came and went - Your love is forever, I feel it and my heart knows That we share it together.
Resigned to the wintertimes cold and dreary Peering into fire flames, burning I know That unlike winter came and went Your love is forever I feel it and my heart knows That we share it together
I feel it and my heart knows youre the one The guiding light in all your love shines on The only lover worth it all Your love is forever.

Beautiful song, sandwiched between a song for his wife and a song for his son. I think the late great Joe Pope called this "horse tranquilizer", but I disagreed and told him so. I give it 3 1/2.

Played the "George Harrison" album in the car last year for my wife and two kids (15 and 14). Usually they ignore my Beatle stuff, but they all liked and actually asked about this album. One of the comments was "is this the Beatles". When I told them it was "only" George, they were surprised, but impressed. Made me smile.
Anyway, this is a big time 4!!!!!

I put this one on a tape for my wife that we brought on our honeymoon. Also included "Love" from John and "I'm Carrying" from Paul. These are three of the best solo love songs in our opinion. We listened to that tape a couple weekends ago. Great memories! Other songs included "Longer" from Dan Fogelberg, "She May Call You Up Tonight" from the Left Banke, "We've Only Just Begun" from the Carpenters, "Bookends Theme" from Simon & Garfunkel, "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" from Jim Croce, "For My Lady" from the Moody Blues and the Beatles "Here There Everywhere.
