3 --- I have become a fan of the BAD BOY album and this is the track that starts off Side One. I think when rating Ringo I ask myself "How does this track stand up as a Ringo Song?" It seems like there is a different yardstick to measure these by.
So anyway - I like "Who Needs a Heart"... a good Ringo Song.

It's as I explained -- with Ringo, I think you have to consider his songs as "Ringo Songs", and his albums as "Ringo Albums". After all, Ringo is not John, Paul, or George and has a lesser ability (even though I enjoy his stuff). I hope you in no way think I'm dissing Ringo Starr. I'm one of his biggest supporters.

2 The very definition of average. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing that really stands out.

Using the "Ringo Yardstick," I'd give it a 3 for "Good." If this was John, Paul or George probably a 2.
It is one of only two songs on BB co-written by Richard Starkey and Vini Poncia. That helps it with me.

A weak 3. It is probably one of the better cuts on the album, and I like that he co-wrote this. This LP was better than the 4th, but not much better.

I like this. It'd be nice to see him take this one and redo it. I give it a 3.

Sorry, but this does nothing for me whatsoever; banal, pedestrian, boring. I hesitate to give it 2 (average), because to my mind average is actually ok. I rate it 1 (crap).

The refrain really killed this one. The verses are passable. For Ringo I give it a 2.

Ringo's vocal fails to give the song anything to lift it beyond mundane and the actual song is a bit of a filler. I'll give at a 2.

Who Needs a Hearrt lyrics...
WHO NEEDS A HEART THAT IS BROKEN IN TWO? WHO NEEDS A DREAM THAT'S BEEN SHATTERED? WHO CRIES FOR MORE WHEN THE JOY TURNS TO PAIN? YOU JUST PRETEND IT NEVER MATTERED.
(Tell me, who needs a love like yours?) THAT IS BRINGING ME DOWN? (And tell me, who sees a love like ours?) THAT WENT WRONG FROM THE START? YOU HAVE BROKEN MY HEART, WE'RE JUST OCEANS APART BUT STILL IT DOESN'T MATTER.
WHY DOES IT HURT WHEN YOU KNOW WHO'S TO BLAME? WHY WERE THE WORDS SOFTLY SPOKEN? WHY WASTE THE TIME WHEN WE'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE? THE TIES THAT BIND ARE ALMOST BROKEN.
(Tell me, who needs a love like yours?) THAT IS BRINGING ME DOWN? (And tell me, who sees a love like ours?) THAT WENT WRONG FROM THE START? YOU HAVE BROKEN MY HEART, WE'RE STILL OCEANS APART BUT STILL IT DOESN'T MATTER.
WE'RE JUST OCEANS APART BUT STILL IT DOESN'T MATTER.
WHO CRIES FOR MORE WHEN THE JOY TURNS TO PAIN? YOU JUST PRETEND IT NEVER MATTERED, YOU JUST PRETEND IT NEVER MATTERED.
WHO NEEDS A HEART THAT'S BEEN SHATTERED? WHO NEEDS A DREAM THAT'S BEEN BROKEN? AND WHO NEEDS THE WORDS SOFTLY SPOKEN?

It's clearly a good song, so it gets a 3. Half this album was good. The other half was pretty awful.

As much as I'd like to buy into the thought that this was not that bad an album for Ringo, even by Joe's "Ringo yardstick", it's hard to find a lot to love on Bad Boy. However, this is one of the better songs on it. That said, I still only give it a 2.

This is one of the few solo Beatle albums I don't have and have never heard.
I like the words to this but the music is not that good. It's like they just plug in instruments to fill in the holes, like that typical solo Beatle bla bla bla sax that's on so many of their songs around this period.
I'll give it a 2.5.
