3 - I really like this bouncy version from Ringo's album of old standards. Upbeat and cheery. I think it's much better than the recent version from Paul's KISSES ON THE BOTTOM.

Here are the lyrics....
Pack up all my cares and woes, Here i go, singing low, Bye, bye, blackbird. Where somebody waits for me, Sugar is sweet, so is she, Bye, bye, blackbird.
No one here can love and understand me, Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me.
Make my bed and light the light, I'll arrive late tonight, Blackbird, bye, bye.
Pack up all my cares and woes, Here i go, singing low, Bye, bye, blackbird. Where somebody waits for me, Sugar is sweet, so is she, Bye, bye, bye, bye, blackbird.
I said, no one here can love and understand me, Oh, what hard luck stories they all hand me.
So, make my bed and light the light, I'll arrive late tonight, Blackbird, bye, bye. Make my bed and light the light, I'll arrive late tonight, Blackbird, I said blackbird, I said blackbird, Oh, blackbird, bye, bye.

3+ always liked this version. If Ringo did more of these type of classics maybe SJ wouldn't have been panned so much.
I'm a Fool to Care and Sentimental Journey also fall into this category-they are Ringo type songs.

I give this a 4 because this is Ringo at his best, singing a song he can sing that is meant to uplift the spirits of ordinary folks who normally don't have a lot to be cheerful about but carry on in workmen-like fashion.
The arrangement here evokes a great pub singalong where I can imagine Ringo surrounded by family and friends from his old neighborhood(this was in the days before Ritchie pissed everyone off in the 'Pool!) just having a great time for a few hours.
Paul's new cover of the same song is not without merit(I kind of like the sadness of it) but it is Paul singing it in some snobby wine bar or some exclusive penthouse lounge with his elite A-list Hollywood crowd he now prefers versus Ringo's pub singalong aimed at us, the other 99%.
Good job Ringo! The Snookeroo Postulate says don't you dare call "It Don't Easy" the real start of Ringo's solo career! Explore SJ and BOB!

I've never heard any song from Sentimental Journey, all I know is that Carr and Tyler thought it was so bad they did not even bother trying to tear it to pieces like alot of other solo albums so I always had an impression that this was Ringo's Two Virgins or Electronic Sounds ie completely unlistenable ... BUT .. after hearing this, it's actually quite good I like it !!!!!!!
4 for Ritchie !!

3 (good).
I've had the Sentimental Journey CD since its release in 1995. I rarely play it, though I must say that Ringo does a very good job with Bye Bye Blackbird. The late Maurice Gibb was the arranger. Well done Maurice as well.
A Completely different atmosphere to Paul's offering from Kisses On The Bottom. I am no expert, but I am guessing that Ringo's rendition is the way it's usually presented, while Paul's is not? I will add that the introduction Paul has attached to his version is, IMO, sublime.

At the beginning I thought it was a 2. Listenable, but nothing great. Then the piano came in and it was (as JSD said) like a "pub sing-a-long". So I was ready to give it a 3. Unfortunately toward the end it started sounding too much like a Frank Sinatra big band type of thing which I don't like as much and doesn't really suit Ringo. Thus I will give it a 2.

I'm not sure about this one. Do I give it an extra point or two because it's not music I listen to? I'll give it a 2. I have no use for it but I recognize the craftmanship.
I deleted the disc from my PC a long time ago when disc space was an issue.
