3 -- I know it's only rock n roll, and I like it. Love the way-out lyrics.

This is the only "goodie" B-side Lennon ever gave us.
I tried for years to find it-no internet back then. I didn't start purchasing Beatle product until 1976, when I was 16 and actually started having spending money.
2+ nice rocker.

3 This is a good old fashioned original rocker and John generally was quite good at those!

I will surprise myself again and only give this a 2.5. I love rock and roll and John gave us precious little of that in his solo career(a lot of slower or mid-paced music) but this doesn't push me over the top. As a Lennon rocker, I love "New York City," for instance, much more.
John is clearly in Dr. Winston O'Boogie mode on this song but it still seems unfinished to me. It is okay though. A 2.5 isn't slamming it.

3. This song reminds me of a Lennon quote: "No group, be it the Beatles, Dylan or Stones ever improved on 'Whole Lotta Shakin' for my money." Maybe this song didn't improve on it either, but John's going for it.
Plus it kinda' captures the whole crazy fun side of the Lost Weekend period before the hangovers kicked in.

4 Gotta love the frantic lyrics and fast rocking beat. And it's nice for once that Johns out of apology mode, putting it lovingly but assertively (no wonder it only got slapped on a b-side) to Yoko: I'll forgive your trespasses if you'll forgive me mine". Tha's more the wide-awake John I like to hear. Great lyrics, and informative too! They probably saved a number of awkward encounters with the proprieters of the local bong store...

I really don't think it is very good, but I'm willing to grant a 2 (average).

Here are the lyrics...
One, two, a one, two, three, four
Well now the underground and overjoyed they come on just the same Don't wanna get too real man, just wanna play the game I guess ya knew it all along we were just singing in the rain Can't get hipped to the down trip, the ship is sailing yet And if it sinks, you know that all you really get is wet!
Move over Ms. L. You know I wish you well Move over Ms. L. you know I wish you well Move over Ms. L.
Well now to err is something human and forgiving so divine I'll forgive your trespasses, if you forgive me mine Life's a deal, you knew it, when you signed the dotted line They nail you to the paper, put a rope around your neck And so we sing along, the boy stood on the burning deck!
Move over Ms. L. You know I wish you well Move over Ms. L. you know I wish you well Move over Ms. L.
Well now momma poppa told me son you better watch your head Your head is fulla snakes boy, you're better red than dead They're starving back in China, that's what they always said! Can't get head in the head shop, yer jeans are fulla crap You're full of beans, you're in your teens, you lost your momma's road map!
Move over Ms. L. You know I wish you well Move over Ms. L. you know I wish you well Move over Ms. L.

I like the title Ms L...he seemed to write so many "Yoko" songs so a Ms L is a nice change....
It's not a great song which is probably why it's a B side but it's far from being a stinker...
A 2 from me....

I like this better than much of the authentic '50s songs on Rock-N-Roll.
It's an easy 3.
That said, can anyone translate these lyrics...
"Can't get head in the head shop, yer jeans are fulla crap You're full of beans, you're in your teens, you lost your momma's road map!"
What?!?!?!?

Great song. This is not so much a great recording. It has too much of that '70s solo Beatle sax on it that I hate. The version in the Lennon Anthology Box set is better. There's an even better version where he sings "pissing in the rain" instead of "singing in the rain". It falls out in teh middle though. The band couldn't keep up. Makes you wonder what George, Paul and Ringo backing him on it would have been like.
3.5 - One of my favorite solo Lennons.

He's not getting enough, he's out on the loose trying to live it up as he did in younger days buthe's unhappy and unfulfilled...he needs Yoko to guide him... Perhaps. You gotta love that "can't get head in the head shop" line, George Carlin could have written that. What?!?!?!?
