4 - I'm giving this one the full rating because I think it's a Paul classic, and I have a personal vested interest because it is part of my childhood and was a huge hit when i was 16. I think I may be overrating it a bit because of nostalgia reasons, but it feels as it feels.

With A Little Luck lyrics......
With a little luck we can help it out We can make this whole damn thing work out. With a little love we can lay it down Can't you feel the town exploding?
There is no end to what we can do together (together) There is no end (there is no end, there is no end, ooh ooh ooh) The willow turns his back on inclement weather And if he can do it, we can do it just me and you
And a little luck we can clear it up We can bring it in for a landing With a little luck we can turn it on There can be no misunderstanding
There is no end to what we can do together (together) There is no end (there is no end, there is no end, ooh ooh ooh) The willow turns his back on inclement weather And if he can do it, we can do it just me and you
With a little push we could set it off We can send it rocketing skywards. With a little love we could shake it up Don't you feel the comet exploding?
With a little luck with a little luck With a little luck a little luck a little luck
With a little luck we can help it out We can make this whole damn thing work out
With a little luck baby we could set it off Send it rocketing skywards. With a little luck we could shake it up
Oh yeah
With a little luck we can help it out We can make this whole damn thing work out With a little push we could set it off We can send it rocketing skywards With a little love we could shake it up Don't you feel the comet exploding wo-wo-o.

I'll give it a 4 (great) as well. I like the full length version with the extensive synthesizer work towards the end of the song.

4
An excellent song, although hindsight suggests that the synth-heavy arrangement might not have been the best idea for long-term longevity (is there such a thing as short-term longevity, I wonders to meself?).

A 3.5 from me although I love it, a biggie in my youth too.
Based on vectis' comment, I have often wondered how this could have been arranged differently. Could it have worked being guitar based? I don't know.

At the time some people wanted more sweat, but this one hit the mark. I give it a 4. The synthesizer is played so tastefully, it doesn't sound dated. In fact, Queen used synths for the first time on their next album, The Game. It was their only album to reach No. 1 in the US.

I suspect that means Linda was no where around the synth in the studio when this was recorded. I have come to appreciate her role in the music which was primarily as a cheerleader for Paul especially the early albums where she gave Paul the courage to get out of bed and go make music. In the studio, Paul could get decent back-up vocals from her creating that famous Wings' sound of Paul, Denny L. and Linda(which never worked live) but instrument-wise I assert that it was a prop for her like it is now for Brian Wilson when he tours(although he can or could once play). Paul did a nice job on synths on WALL rather than the Wings designated keyboardist. I would not believe any printed credits to the contrary. Laurie Partridge(Susan Dey) was as effective on electric keyboards as Linda McCartney.

Laurie Partridge(Susan Dey) was as effective on electric keyboards as Linda McCartney. Yeah, if Linda was playing on that track, the instrument wasn't plugged in. This makes me think of another opportunity Paul missed in 1977 by not having the album ready for Christmas release. I know Linda had given birth in September and they were enjoying the new baby, little James. But if he would have acted quickly he could have made the final tweaks in October/November instead of January/February. Paul would have had the best selling album of the year around the world if he would have released the following album: London Town (December 1, 1977) Side 1 1. London Town 2. Cafe On The Left Bank 3. Waterspout 4. I'm Carrying 5. Girlfriend 6. I've Had Enough Side 2 7. With A Little Luck 8. Deliver Your Children 9. Backwards Traveller 10. Girls' School 11. Don't Let It Bring You Down 12. Mull Of Kintyre Bonus: 13. Same Time Next Year By getting it out earlier he would have missed the head to head with Saturday Night Fever, benefited from the popularity of Mull of Kintyre and missed the beginning of the punk craze in the UK which might have cut into later sales. As it was it was a success. But it would have been so much more. Keeping Morse Moose, Children Children, Name and Address and Famous Groupies as b-sides couldn't have hurt either. He could have used those four tracks as b-sides to four singles: Mull of Kintyre, Waterspout, With A Little Luck and I've Had Enough.

Any idea why Paul virtually abandoned this song after it's release (especially given its #1 status). I beleive that he has NEVER performed this live, anytime, anywhere.
I give it a 3 as I always thought it was a little too long (the single version is better, IMHO).

soundtrack to senior year-4. This was a big POP hit, but if he ever revisits it- should be either acoustic or electric guitars.

It really seems Paul worked part of it in on a soundcheck song. There are all those soundcheck ones on "Tripping the Live Fantastic."

I agree with you Mike but could it work, could it keep its same feel but be toughened up with guitars? I wouldn't want it to be "Dylanized" as Bob does in concert where you can't even recognize his songs. I ask especially you as you are one of our musicians here.

He needs to sing it per the hit (I mean vocals), but even though Wix can probably do the synths note for note, it just sounds so darn dated. But to me this song and Uncle Albert are both personal favs and also are the only no.1s he has never done live- not counting Say Say Say.

I give it a 3.5, it was good at the time. You had to accept soft rock, though.
These days I'll skip it when I play London Town, I guess I've heard it too many times. But I like that instumental break in the extended version.

Look who got called in to really play keyboards...Denny Laine. I take it WALL was not played live on the aborted 1979 tour. vectis was there, he would know.

I have never heard a cover of WALL. I wish someone would with a modern arrangement and backing. here is your soundcheck...I have seen this before. That's pretty good for a rehearsal. I like the faster tempo. It needs another layer of keyboards. Paul should have given Denny the bass and got to work on the synth.

I have never heard a cover of WALL. I wish someone would with a modern arrangement and backing. Hmmm...is that a challenge? Go for it Mike! I call upon all former members of Rockslide to put aside your differences that resulted in the bitter break-up, when wives, drugs and a slipping image( ;D ) caused a great band to implode! It is always the bass player's fault! Only Rockslide could toughen up "With A Little Luck" with a new arrangement, using guitars instead of synths.

We actually recorded a reunion song a few years back that sounds a lot like Deliver Your Children...

A great song, great vocals, great recording. A little easy listening but it rocks out at the end (the vocals rock out anyway). The instrumental middle gives it an almost classical vibe (in the progressive rock vein). It was so radio friendly, it was almost burned out.
The video was cool, with the kids running around the dance floor (was that Bandstand?).
I'm debating .... I'm giving it a rare 4.0.
Now I'm going to go back and see what you guys said.

Damn. I thought some of you were going to rip this to shreads. Nice surprise.
I didn't think the rehearsal video was bad either. It wasn't a good rercording but I bet it sounded pretty good if you were in that living room. I would like to have heard that in a studio setting with those instruments, playing live. It probably wasn't good enough for proper release, by Paul's standards anyway.

A great song and I don't think it has dated, the synth section of the extended album version is Paul at his best.
