2 -- Written for Ringo by John, and one of Lennon's weakest songs of all time. Thoroughly average.

Here are the lyrics....
Well I'm a-cookin' Just a-cookin' Cookin' in the kitchen of love Cookin' in the kitchen of life, Lord Lord Ain't nothin' to it, come on and do it, cookin'
Well I'm a-truckin' Just a-truckin' Truckin' down the highway of love Truckin' down the highway of life, Lord Lord Ain't nothin' to it, come watch me do it, truckin'
Well we're gonna have a party (Bring yourself) We're gonna have a party (Just can't get enough) We're gonna have a party And do some layin' down
Well I'm a-rockin' Just a-rockin' I'm rockin' in the cradle of love Rockin' in the cradle of life, Lord Lord Ain't nothin' to it, come help me do it, rockin'
Well we're gonna have a party I said we're gonna have a party We're gonna have a party And do some playin' 'round
Well it's got to be high, it's got to be low 'Cause in between we just don't go Just gotta sing, ooh, gotta dance Just gotta listen to the band
Hey hey hey, hey hey hey Hey hey hey, hey hey hey Hey hey hey, hey hey hey Hey hey hey, hey hey hey
Well I'm a-dancin' (Dancin') Da-da-da-dancin' (Da-da-da-dancin') Well dancin' in the streets of love Dancin' in the streets of life, Lord Lord Ain't nothin' to it, I can do it, dancin'
Well we're gonna have a party I said we're gonna have a party We're gonna have a party And do some layin' down
Well we're gonna have a party (Bring yourself) I said we're gonna have a party (Just can't get enough) Come on let's have a party And do some layin' down
Oh Lord! I said we're gonna have such a beautiful party! Two three four, and do some layin' down
So glad you could make it (Well I'm a-cookin' and a-truckin') So glad you could come (And a-rockin' and a dancin') So glad you could make it (And party all over this place!) So glad you could come (We're gonna call up some of my friends) (And say you betta come on 'round) (And it's gonna be wonderful!)
So glad you could make it So glad you could come So glad you could make it So glad you could come (Oh now, lots of chicken)

2 minus. I enjoy the album as a whole, so this within the context of the whole LP is okay. But man, was this a Lennon clunker. I wonder if they recorded this around the same time as Wings recording that other Cookin clunker..."Cahook of the House"... Please Joe- do NOT feature THAT one Linda singing in that faux British accent shout-ahh those cringe-worthy moments.

What can I say? There are Lennon compositions that I just do not like, but this one has grown on me. It's got a bouncy beat. It's a welcome addition to Rotogravure.

3 for me.
During John's silent "Househusband" years, I played this song over and over because it was John's only commercial musical appearance in those five long years. He does the count in towards the end of the song which as a new fan I just hung onto more than possible.
I did not like the Polaroid photo of John inside the album jacket. As a newbie, I could hardly recognize him.

I don't mind it. 2 (average). It's a modest little song, to be sure, but likeable. I appreciate the understated guitar and Melissa Manchester appears on the backing vocals.

This one is kind of like a lot of the earlier Beatles songs; pop, but rocked up enough to make it cool. But ..., this isn't as good as a Beatle song, even coming from Johnny's pen.
That could be a bias to the Beatles, though. They were so exciting and the great songs were so great, that even the filler songs seemed great. And now, they've got that nostalgic place in your heart to where they still sound good.
Of course, they may just actually be better.
Also, at this point, I feel the urge to explain how I do my ratings.
I rate the songs by songs that I like. I like average songs. But that said, virtually nothing on the radio is average. It is all crap. I like some new music, Dead Weather, The Black Angels, Foo Fighters, OutKast .... So don't think I'm just lost in the past.
2.0 - average is good.
For something to be 3. - good, it's got to be great.
For something to be 4.0 great, it's got to be excellent, perfect, using Strawberry Fields as a guide. I know some of you don't put Strawberry up there but you should know what I'm saying.
Using this scale, 1.0 - crap should be average. But come on, if it's average, I'm not going to call it crap. Because average is good.
I just felt the need to clear that up.
This is a 2.0 - average. (Which is good!)

1. Doesn't do much for my appetite. And yeah, Fabfour's right -- they were cooking turkey on this one. "We're gonna have a party / And do some layin' down"

I always liked this and Rotogravure, Pure Gold and I Still Love You
It shows that John can give something like this away which could have made a solid album track.
