3 -- Really groovy, man. Really love the sax and the vibe to this one. I just wish it was a little longer... seems kind of short to me.

3.5 from me. A very good rocker that worked great at One To One. This is a rare Lennon track where I like the horn(s). The Rolling Stones and many African American bands(like Kool & The Gang who I just saw live two months ago) use horns to make the music swing. John used horns in a sickly, slowed down way and I think primarily of the horns throughout Walls & Bridges which are bummers IMO. The horn(s) rocks out on "It's So Hard!"

This is a good one. I give it a 3. I like when John rocked on his solo work, but he should have done it more. This is full of sexual innuendo, very clever lyrics and a great groove of a tune well backed up by those faceless nobodies as I call them. For a group of session musicians, they did very well. That's one reason I object to some of John, George and Ringo's solo records. The session people can come off as plain vanilla. Its not like a band were there is real relationships (excepting Elephant's Memory). I think it makes a difference most of the time. Some of George's records were awful with Russ Tittleman as producer. Those annoying faux-jazz horns he used to use just put me off. This instrumentation has real character and isn't lost in a soup mix of other distractions.

3 (good). It's So Hard is Lennon hard rock. Hard rock with strings, no less. I like that touch. It gives the second half of the song some swing and a sort of Asian feel.

I give it a 3 but it really needed a solo.

I said before, I don't care for all the sax on the solo Beatles' albums, but the sax sounds good here, King Curtis a month before he was stabbed to death.
My opinion of this song is tainted by the video of the Lennons going down the street wearing their bags.
I liked most of Imagine when the album came out, this song certainly. I got the video Imagine sometime later.
I'll put the taint away and give this a 3.5.
I haven't looked at the other scores yet. I may bump it up.

Here are the lyrics...
You gotta eat, you gotta drink You gotta feel something, you gotta worry But it's hard, you know it's hard Sometime I feel like going down
You gotta live, you gotta love You gotta be somebody, you gotta shove But you know it's hard, it's really hard Sometime I feel like going down
But when it's good, it's really good And when I hold you in my arms, baby Sometime I feel like going down
You gotta run, you gotta hide You gotta keep your woman satisfied But you know it's hard, it's hard to get hard Sometime I feel like going down
You gotta run, you gotta hide You gotta keep your woman satisfied But you know it's hard, it's so hard to get hard

I'll give it a strong 2 Has some interesting parts (sax, guitar, strings combo) but not as strong a vocal as one might expect from Lennon. Funny that JoeK said he wished it was a little longer. I've always thought it was too long (yet I see it is only 2:30). There are both much better (and a couple much worse) songs on this album.

I give it a 3 but it really needed a solo. Doesn't it have a solo? Not a lead guitar solo, it's a simple blues based song, I would have liked a guitar solo not a sax solo.

One of my favs from JL. This song HAS major guitar, and a "hard" solo. A blues-infested 3.5.
