4 -- Great song from George -- should have been a big hit, and would have been a big hit if released in the 1970s.
COUD NINE was such a great comeback album from George. It was such a shame he didn't do a proper tour.

And the lyrics go like this...
"This Is Love"
Precious words drift away from their meaning And the sun melts the chill from our lives Helping us all to remember what we came here for This is love, this is la la la-la love This is love, this is la la la-la love
Little things that will change you forever May appear from way out of the blue Making fools of ev'rybody who don't understand This is love, this is la la la-la love This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is love This is love, this is la la la-la love
Since our problems have been our own creation They also can be overcome When we use the power provided free to everyone This is love, this is la la la-la love This is love, this is la la la-la love
This is love, this is la la la-la love This is love, this is la la la-la love Oh, this is love, this is la la la-la love This is love, this is la la la-la love

would have been better with a Paul lead guitar solo but... 4Your sour grapes sarcasm aside, I love George's twangy solo guitar sound here and on other songs. (However, I still think Paul was a fine lead guitarist who might have added more bite to The Beatles' records).

I'll give it a strong 3. I think I'm a bit more stingy with my 4's than a lot of other posters. CLOUD NINE was an excellent album!

You are definitely opinionated but you are not always correct..

Oh, I don't think you like that some people like me think Paul might have been a superior lead guitar player in The Beatles. I think you are plenty sour about it, and also any time someone says anything less than glowing about George. That's why it's still praying on your mind here with your sarcastic comment about Paul's guitar playing. I don't think I'm always correct (that may be your hangup about me). But you're right - I am certainly quite opinionated.

Other times, i just like to take the piss, this has been one of those times and yes i'm referencing another topic when doing so but it's definitely not sour....

4. When I first heard this upon release in 1987, I leaped about like a wildman so happy that George made a song like this! Great Pop Music with alk the great George elements: great singing, cool lyrics and great guitar!
I like Jeff Lynne's invovement with George and it pays off on this song. Jeff gave George's music more "Pop muscle."

Like many of the songs on Cloud 9, this is excellent - a great song, a good arrangement and production, and a terrific vocal from George.

Except for the guitar solo which sounds like a bleating sheep, I think this is a great song. I give it a 4. This album made me admire George's songwriting talent all over again after a few less than stellar lps.

4. One of my favorite George songs. I remember listening to this one over and over when the album first came out. One of his most Beatlesque songs. Nobody gets a guitar tone like George.

I give it 3 (good). It's a nice bit of work, but I can't help but thinking that if it was Paul's song we would be complaining about all the "la la la."

My favorite part of "This Is Love" is when George passionately sings:
"Since our problems have been our own creation They also can be overcome."
How positive! How reassuring! We all go through our crises in life and George gives us simple yet powerful words of encouragement.

We all go through our crises in life and George gives us simple yet powerful words of encouragement. I've always liked that line too and draw inspiration from it at times, but I don't think it's always accurate. There are indeed problems we have that are not at all "our own creation", and not all of them can be overcome. (This is not either the 'pessimist' nor 'optimist' in me talking; it's the realist). I've always heard the line as: "Since our problems have been our own creation they also can be our overcome".

They have never forgiven him for using the Bali bombing as an excuse to cancel his concert(s) there when in fact he hadn't sold out his show(s)! I quickly duck but one of our Aussie friends here or at Steve's first Board leveled that charge directly at Paul several years ago.

4.0
It was great that George put out a pop song like this. Cloud 9 is a great album with a great sound, I like it alot.
George said of this song on Aussie radio in 1988 that although he liked it, he had written better songs on other albums that not many people listened to.

Well certainly Paul gets 20% on this one. This is Love, this is la la la la Love.
This seems a little light to me, too breezy. George looks great in the video. He looks like he is having a good time in the large crowd.
I'll have to give this a 2.0.
There's no hooks to get me into the song. It almost dips down below 2.0.
