2.5 --- I think this is one of the salvageable songs off the second-rate PIPES OF PEACE album. But I like it more for it's good-time musical feel than I do the words. There isn't much of a point to this, but it's fun to sing along with. I can't help but picture Paul making funny faces during the "deh deh deh deh" parts.

here are the lyrics....
Look at the average person Speak to the man in the street. Can you imagine the first one you'd meet? Doo-doo-doo-doo Doo-doo-doo doo-oo-doo-doo. Well I'm talking to a former engine driver (driver) Trying to find out what he used to do. Tells me that he always kept his engine (engine) Spit and polished up as good as new. But he said his only great ambition Was to work with lions in a zoo (oh to work with lions in a zoo?) Yes dear you heard right Told me his ambition was to work with lions ev'ry night Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na. Look at the average person Speak to the man on the beat. Can you imagine the first one you'd meet? Doo-doo-doo-doo Doo-doo-doo doo-oo-doo-doo. Well I met a woman working as a waitress (waitress) I asked exactly what it was she did. Said she worked the summer crowd at seasides (seasides) Winter time she ran away and hid. Once she had a hollywood audition But the part was given to a kid. (yes the part was given to a kid) Yes sir you heard right Hollywood ambition made a starlet grown up overnight-ee. Na-na-na-na-na-na Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na. Oo-oo-oo - oo-oo-oo - Oo-oo - oo - oo-oo - I know someone an engine driver I know someone who'd been a boxer I know for sure I know I know I know that they are super! Well I bumped into a man who'd been a boxer (boxer) Asked him what had been his greatest night. He looked into the corners of his mem'ry (mem'ry) Searching for a picture of the fight. But he said he always had a feeling That he lacked a little extra height. (could have used a little extra height) Yes mate you heard right He always had a feeling that he might have lacked a little height. Na-na-na-na-na-na - ee- Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na. Oh! Uh uh! Look at the average person Speak to the man in the queue. Can you imagine the first one is you? Uh uh uh uh. Doo-doo-doo doo-oo-doo-doo Doo-doo-doo doo-oo-doo-doo Doo-doo-doo. Look at the average person.

2. I have a hard time giving it more that that because of the echoing of so many lines and the "deh deh deh" parts that go on too long. It needs a good editing job. The brass interludes are quite good. The lyrics, while not great, do have a point to them. I like Keep Under Cover much better from the same album and in a similar vein.

I'll give it a solid 3. Very catchy and a fun song, but not enough substance to give it a 4. PIPES OF PEACE paled in comparison to the great TUG OF WAR. There were no great songs, but there are a lot of good songs.

2.5 for me. This is one I find myself singing along to even though I don't want to. It kind of crumbles though under scrutiney. Which POP song does Paul play an acoustic guitar solo then put an applause track on? He was applauding himself. That has always irked me but it wasn't this song, right? This song is part of Paul's alleged concern for the average man or fan(like in the song "London Town") but that is a ploy or if genuine then long gone. "Hollywood Paul" only hangs with the "beautiful people" now and gets mad when "average people" take his picture in public with their cellphones even if they don't otherwise approach him and are cleary fans not the press.

Not bad. When he does the "Uh uh uh uh...uh" sounds effects his face makes all the classic constipation looks though.

2 (average). I find this a frustrating song. It's only on the cusp of being something good. I also feel this way about the Pipes Of Peace album in general. Tug Of War was a stylish pop album of high quality. Pipes Of Peace was a stylish pop album of lowish quality. I wish it had not been released. Paul could have issued Say Say Say/The Man with Michael Jackson as a non-album single in 1983; put some more work into the more promising tracks from POP and released them on a 1984 album. No Give My Regards To Broadstreet movie! We might have had two classic McCartney albums over the space of two years, instead of one classic, plus two mediocre albums and one terrible film. All IMO, of course.

The brass interludes are quite good. The lyrics, while not great, do have a point to them. I like Keep Under Cover much better from the same album and in a similar vein. I agree completely, especially about Keep Under Cover (which has that Eleanor Rigby vibe). But I give this song a 1.5, it's not crap but it's less than average. The lyrics, i dunno, besides not being particularly good, have this slight whiff of a condesending attitude, maybe?

Come on Paul. You're not going to get Ringo points. And is it youtube? Where are those damn 3 Stooges sound effects coming from?
I don't know. At least he's not using a real kazoo, he is just imitating one with his voice. But he's doing it to the tune of Tug of War. That part almost gets points.
1.5. I like the reference to the boxer.

I think this is a good song and I would have given it a 3.0 except the human kazoo sounds Paul makes ruin it for me, is it a kid's song ?
Paul took a good song and made it average.
2.5

2 (just)
He has so many unreleased songs which are good, yet quality control passed this one. He's clearly trying to do a non-love, interesting comment song, but it's pretty rubbishy, to be frank.

This guy was pretty good. What a random song to perform om YouTube, though.
Average Person (Paul)--3 Average Person (The Big Man)--3.5 (due to the non-use of silly sound effects...well, until the beached whale noises near the end)
