3 -- I screwed up; I voted "2" when I meant to hit "3"...
But in a way it makes sense. Because YOU is not really a good song and yet I enjoy it. It's an average song which I find good somehow. The lyrics are trite... but I love the music here and the energy.

here are the lyrics...
I, I, love, love And I, and I love you Oh you, you, yeah you
And you, you, love, love And you, yes you, you love me Yeah you, you, yeah you
And when I'm holding you What a feeling Seems so good to be true That I'm telling you all That I must be dreaming
Sax Solo
And I, and I, I love you Oh you, oh you, yeah you
And when I'm holding you What a feeling Seems so good to be true That I'm telling you all That I must be dreaming
Now I, oh I, I love, love And I, yeah I, I love you, I love you Oh you, oh you, you
Oh, you know that I love you, oh oh oh Oh, you know that I love you, I love you, I, I said I love you

I gave it a 4 just on George's vocal alone

3. It may be lightweight, but I've always liked it since I first became aware of it after buying the Best Of George Harrison album sometime in the late 1970s. I like the guitar.

I gave it a 4. This is one where personal sentiment bumped it up. I know intellectually it should only get a 3. Nice upbeat music and a good vocal, but limited lyrically. Yet this was my favorite current song at the time it came out. I was a teenager and the positive energy and optimism was just what I needed at that time. it always made me feel good to hear it on the radio (still does). So it is great for me and would probably rate a good without the personal experience with the song.

I received ET as a Christmas gift along with Born to Run I think in 1979. I vaguely remember You as a single, but loved it right off the bat on the LP all simple lyrics aside.
4 for me for "delayed" sentimental value (1979 Christmas, not the original release). But I can understand some people not liking it.

This song has been sped up. George almost sounds like a munchkin. It reminds me of Robert Plant's ridiculously high pitched vocals on The Song Remains the Same especially after the 3:00 mark on the LZ recording. Listen to You at the 2:24 mark. Back in Oz or maybe a dose of helium.
As for the song itself, it was left over from a previous session and I can see why. While a bit catchy, it goes nowhere and the horns don't help. I like the nod to the Ronettes Be My Baby in the fadeout. Still, I give it a 2.5 (closer to the lower score for the tally above).

There is no mention anywhere that i can find that says this song is sped up. what i did read was Harrison's vocals were recorded onto the backing track for the version Ronnie Spector recorded... That munchkin comment is crap by the way.... was So Bad sped up....

I bet I'll never see such dismissive words as "munchkin" or "ridiculously" from you when talking about a Paul song, ever.

I played this for a Beatles fan who is not very familiar with some of their solo work and his first reaction was that it was sped up. I remember at the time of its release thinking the same thing. I don't know why its so unbelievable. He did the same thing on Dark Horse with Bye Bye Love.

I don't think George's voice is sped up on YOU. I think he's making those odd inflections, but it's not sped up. Who are you, Sir, that I ought not doubt Thee? After all you were just wrong about how Paul's SOMEDAYS was written. ;D

I voted 3 on the Poll but really I'd give this 2.5. I have zero memory of this from September-October 1975 even though I was a Top 40 radio geek.

Ahhh..so with Paul it's falsetto but with George it's sped up.... For a minute i thought you were serious but now i see it's a wind up.... For the most part You is not sung in falsetto. I am talking about the whole song being mastered at a higher than normal pitch.

The new listen did not help. This is still not one of my favorites. It sounds like he's trying to copy Paul's simple love song style. But the music is simple too and just doesn't work for me. I hate sax in general and this song is not going to change my opinion. The song got played on the radio but it in no way made me want to buy the album (luckily).
And then it returns with A Little Bit More of You on the album. This almost sends it into dislike territory.
1.5, a 2 in the pole.

Ha, ha. The pole is at 33.3. Ha ha. Don't anybody else dare vote. That is too perfect. Aside from the fact that it should've been the score for George's 33 and a Third album.
